Description

Method of joining a post to its foundation enabling a change of post position in case of an external force caused by hitting
The object of this invention is the method of joining a post, especially a street/road lamp post or road signpost, with its foundation so as to enable a change of position of that post in case of an external force caused e.g. by hitting of a motor vehicle.
The commonly known and used joint of post to its foundation consists in rigid joint of post foot part with its foundation with concrete-embedded bolts with heads, wherein the post feet, provided with suitable holes, are placed onto bolt ends and tightened with nuts from above.
The joints have a drawback that the bolt ends and nuts projecting to outside are subject to corrosion, thus requiring constant supervision and systematic maintenance, as well as are a potential hazard of injury of not careful passers-by or more serious consequences in case of mishandling by irresponsible persons. Besides, in case of an accident and/or hit with mechanical vehicle into post foot, the vehicle usually becomes damaged and persons in it suffer injuries or even life is lost.
The method of making a monolithic joint of a prefab ferroconcrete post with its foundation is known from the Polish patent description No. 147417, wherein the reinforcement wires are led out of both the foundation and the post foot and a ferroconcrete frame is set on the foundation, whereas the post foot is shifted into the frame and the free space inside the frame is filled with concrete.
The other design, known from Polish patent application No. P-348736, reveals a joint of a prefab ferroconcrete post with its reinforcement wires led out and a central steel rod beyond the base of the post, wherein the post is glued with resin and quick-bonding shrink-free cement mortar into a foundation foot with suitably prepared holes by drilling.
Polish patent application No. 340725, reveals also a post formed as hollow tube section with the inner layer made of thermosetting fiber-reinforced plastic and outer layer made of polyolefme plastic.
Polish patent applications Nos. P-347914 and P-347915 reveal also ferroconcrete lighting posts, reinforced with longitudinal steel rods and having a central two-diameter upward- tapered hole, consisting of upper post section and the lower foundation section ended with upward-tapered hollow socle of the same profile as the lower part of the post, whereas a flat iron with axially-positioned hole is imbedded in concrete in the lower part of the post and another flat iron with axially fixed nut is imbedded in concrete in the upper part of the foundation socle, both flat irons being then bolted together.
The purpose of the invention is to develop such method of post joint to/with its foundation as to eliminate the drawbacks of the joints known hitherto. The additional purpose of the invention is to obtain the above mentioned effect at low financial cost and with the commercially available elements for the joint.
The essence of the post joint with its foundation of this invention is that the post shank foundation contains a permanently fixed lug and nuts, so that their axes are located in the axes of holes of posts shank foot, also provided with a lug, the post foot with post shank is placed on the foundation and bolts with rings of different external diameters are introduced through the larger, upper holes of the foot and the bolts are screwed into the nuts so that the bolt heads press down the upper stages of rings of larger diameter to the surface of the lower shelf of the foot, whereas both lugs are joined with a strand. The rings of differing external diameters have their largest diameter of such thickness as to permit shearing of the upper stage of the ring around the extension of its smaller diameter in case of a preset hitting force in the post shank. Favorably the upper holes of the post shank are provided with blanking cups fitted onto bolt heads.
The method of joining of this invention eliminates completely the drawbacks and inconveniences of hitherto known methods of joining poles and posts with their foundations. Besides, at comparable costs of their execution the method of this invention meets all requirements of the European standards, as covered by the EN- 12767:2000.
The object of this invention is shown in the example of its embodiment in drawings, where fig. 1 is a diagram showing the joint of streetlight post shank with its foundation as viewed from the front, fig. 2 is the top view of the same post shank, fig. 3 shows a fragment of post shank and the post foot joined to its foundation in an axial section, fig. 4 shows the same fragment of post shank in exploded cross section, fig. 5 is the front view of the post shank and its foundation at the moment when external force 'F' is applied by hitting with motor vehicle, fig. 6 is the axial section of a fragment of the same post shank and its foundation and fig. 7 is the front view of the post shank and its foundation in a position of maximum change of shank position caused by external force 'F' previously shown in fig. 5.
The method of joining a pole or post with its foundation comprises a permanent lug 2 and nuts 3_ fixed in the foundation I so that their axes coincide with those of holes 5 and 6 of the foot 7, which is also provided with the lug 9. Then the foot 7 is placed, together with post shank 8, onto the foundation 1_ and bolts W with rings Yl having two-stage outside diameters D and Di are introduced through holes 5. of diameter D slightly bigger than the Di diameter, and the bolts .10 are screwed into nuts 3., so that their heads press (on) the upper stage of rings 12 down to the surface of the lower shelf of the foot 7. Then blanking cups JQ are pressed into holes 5. to cover partially the heads ϋ of the bolts JLO, and besides the lugs 2 and 9 are linked with strand 14. The thickness of the larger, external diameter D of steel rings V2 is of such linear dimension G that under a preset hitting force F into post shank 8 the upper stage of the ring becomes sheared around the extension of its Dl diameter.
In case of an external force F, as may be caused for example by motor vehicle hitting in the post shank 8, the upper stage of the steel ring Yl becomes sheared around the extension of its diameter DL Then the heads H of bolts JU) and the remaining part of the steel ring 12 come out of holes 6 of diameter DJ. in the foot 7 of post shank 8 causing a slow falling of that post shank with simultaneous pull out of the strand .14 from the socket of the foundation 1, until the post is laid completely on the ground.
In the other execution, not shown in the drawing, the strand 14 is wound onto a drum equipped with brake, thus enabling a controlled falling of the post shank S in case of the occurrence of an external force F.
