Abstract

 本発明は、ソーダライムガラスを基礎材料とするガラスであって、Snを0.8~2.5重量%(SnO換算量)含有し、Feの含有量が0.045重量%(Fe2O3換算量)以下である透明白色蛍光ガラス、及びソーダライムガラスを基礎材料とするガラスであって、Snを0.8~2.5重量%(SnO換算量)含有し、Ceを0.02~0.14重量%(CeO2換算量)含有する透明白色蛍光ガラスを提供する。  本発明の蛍光ガラスは、簡易な操作により、低コストで数十cm以上の大型板材を製造でき、しかも紫外線照射により十分な白色蛍光を呈するものである。

[0003] この様な紫外線励起による蛍光特性を備えたガラスとしては、(1)蛍光剤としてのテ ルビゥム (Tb)またはユウ口ピウム (Eu)を含み、さらにその他の希土類元素を含むことが あるフッ燐酸塩蛍光ガラス (特許文献 1)、(2)ガラス材料構成成分としてリン (P)、酸素 ( 0)およびフッ素 (F)を含み、蛍光剤として 2価のユーロピウム(Eu)、テルビウム(Tb)お よび (サマリウム +マンガン)の少なくとも 1種を含んでいる可視蛍光フッ燐酸塩青色及 び白色蛍光ガラス (特許文献 2)、(3)ガラス材料構成成分としてケィ素 (Si)、ホウ素 (B) 、酸素 (0)を含み、蛍光剤として、テルビウム (Tb)またはユーロピウム(Eu)を含んでい る酸化物蛍光ガラス(特許文献 3)、(4)蛍光剤として Cu+イオンを含有する青色蛍光ガ ラス (特許文献 4)、(5)ォキシ窒化物を含む蛍光ガラス (特許文献 5)などが知られて 、 る。

[0010] 本発明者は、上記の課題を解決するために、鋭意研究を行なった結果、基礎原料 としてのソーダライムガラスに特定の割合で Snを配合する場合には、紫外線励起によ り比較的強い白色発光が生じることを見出した。また、原料ケィ砂に由来してソーダラ ィムガラス中に必然的に含まれる Fe含有量を制御することにより、或 、はソーダライム ガラス中に特定の光増感剤を特定量配合することにより、ガラス材料の蛍光強度を増 カロさせることが可能であることを見出した。本発明は、これらの知見に基づいて完成さ れたものである。

[0016] 本発明の透明白色蛍光ガラスは、添加剤成分として Snを含有するものである。ソー ダライムガラス中に Snが含まれることによって、紫外線励起により比較的強い白色発 光を生じるガラスとなる。 Snの含有量は、本発明の透明白色蛍光ガラス全体を基準と して、 SnO換算量で 0.8〜2.5重量%程度であることが必要であり、 1〜2重量%程度で あることが好ましい。なお、本明細書においては、 Snは、その存在量を" SnO換算量" により (すなわち Sn2+として)示している力 溶融後に得られるガラス中には、 Sn2+と Sn4+ の両者が存在し得る。

45重量%程度以下とすることによって、高い蛍光強度を有する蛍光ガラスとすること ができる。ガラス中において、 Fe成分は、優先的に電子またはホールをトラップして、 強力な不純物消光中心として働くので、過剰量の Fe成分が存在する場合には、強い 蛍光が得られない。従って、紫外線励起により非架橋酸素の周辺で生成すると思わ れる電子とホールとの再結合による白色系の発光強度を高めるためには、 Feの含有 量はできるだけ低いことが好ましいが、その量が少なすぎる場合には、ガラス自体の Hg線 (254nm)での紫外線透過率が高くなる危険性がある。また、ガラス製造原料は、 Fe成分を含むものが多いので、最終的に得られる Fe含有量を極度に下げようとする 場合には、ガラス製造コストが著しく高くなり、実用的ではない。この様な観点から、 F eの含有量は、 Fe 0換算量として 0.02〜0.04重量%程度であることが好ましい。

[0024] 本発明による透明白色蛍光ガラスは、溶融後に所望組成のソーダライムガラスを形 成し得る各種のガラス原料を所定の割合で混合し、更に、所定割合の添加剤成分を 加えて溶融し、冷却固化させることによって製造することができる。
[0025] 基礎成分としてのソーダライムガラスは、 Na CO CaCO SiOなどの公知のガラス

製造用原料を用いて形成できる。
[0026] 添加剤成分である Sn酸ィ匕物源としては、溶融により形成されるガラス中において、 所定の酸化物として存在し得る化合物又は所定の酸化物を形成し得る化合物が使 用できる。例えば、 SnO等を用いることができる。また、ガラス製造時に酸化還元によ る価数調整を必要とするが、 SnOを単独で、或いは SnOとともに使用することも可能

である。 CeOなどの増感剤は、所定量原料に混合しておくだけで良い。

[0027] Fe量の制御は、通常、ソーダライムガラスの原料成分中の Fe量を調整することによ つて行えばよい。 [0028] 本発明による蛍光ガラスは、可視域で透明であり、 300nm以下の紫外線照射による 励起により白色系に発光する。照射紫外線の波長は、 240〜260應の範囲にあること 力 り好ましい。また、本発明による蛍光ガラスは、ランプなどで広く使用されている H g発光紫外線 (254nm)などの有害な紫外線カット性能を発揮する。
[0029] 本発明による蛍光ガラスは、その優れた光学的特性の故に、照明器具用ガラス材; 液晶ディスプレイ、 PDP、有機 ELディスプレイ、 LEDディルプレイなどの各種のデイス プレイ用ガラス材などとして、有用である。
[0030] さらに、本発明による透明蛍光ガラスは、採光窓と照明器具とを兼ねた照明装置に おいても、その有用性を大きく発揮する。図 1にその概要を示す。
[0031] 図示の採光照明装置においては、本発明による蛍光ガラス板 2枚の間に紫外線導 通媒体(シリカ膜、多孔質ガラス、減圧気体など)を封入するとともに、ガラス板側方に ブラックライト (紫外線波長 254nm)を配置してある。図示の採光照明装置は、建造物 の外壁或いは天井部などに設置して使用することができる。
[0032] 照明が必要とされる時間帯或いは気象条件において、ブラックライトを点灯すると、 媒体を通過した紫外線が蛍光ガラス全面に導入されるので、ガラスは白色発光して、 室内の照明装置としての機能を発揮する。
[0033] これに対し、昼間には、装置のブラックライトを消灯することにより、自然光の採光窓 として利用することができる。昼間時に外部からの輻射熱による室内温度の上昇を防 止するために、建物外側に位置する蛍光ガラス板表面には、赤外線反射膜が形成さ れている。赤外線反射膜としては、公知の酸化物皮膜 (酸化クロム膜、酸化コバルト膜 など)、金属皮膜 (Co、 Ni)などが利用できる。
[0034] 特に、紫外線導通媒体として、多孔質ガラスのような紫外線透過性と断熱性とを兼 ね備えた材料を使用する場合には、屋内と屋外との間での断熱効果を高めることが できる。
[0035] この様に、図示の採光照明装置は、昼間には自然光を取り入れる窓として、夜間に は照明器具としての機能を発揮するので、自然で快適な生活を可能とする。
発明の効果
[0036] 本発明によれば、低コストで製造容易なソーダライムガラスを基礎ガラスとするので 、数十 cm以上の大型の蛍光ガラス板材を安価に得ることができる。
[0037] 本発明による蛍光ガラスは、紫外線励起により、高効率で高輝度に白色に発光す る。そのため、蛍光ガラスは、照射された紫外線を高効率で蛍光に変換させるので、 紫外線を殆ど外部に透過させない。

ようにこれらのガラス原料を混合し、更に、 Sn源として SnOを添加して混合した後、 140 0°Cで 4時間溶融した。
[0041] 溶融生成物を徐冷した後、サンプル用ガラス片を切り出し、研磨して、 1mm X 10mm
X 10mmのサンプルを作製した。得られたガラス中の Fe量(Fe 0換算量 (wt%) )及び S

n量 (SnO換算量 (wt%) )を下記表 1に示す。
[0042] 得られたガラスサンプルを暗室中において 4Wのブラックライト(低圧水銀灯、中心 波長 254nm、サンプル入射面紫外線強度 1.4mW/cm2)上に置き、紫外線を照射しな がら、サンプルの輝度を揮度計 (MINOLTA LS— 110)を用いて測定した。また、同サ ンプルにっ 、て、 254nmでの紫外線透過率を測定した。
[0043] その結果を比較例 1〜5についての結果とともに表 1に示す。また、実施例 4で得ら れたガラスにつ 、ての蛍光スぺクトノレを図 2に示す。

[0048] 得られたガラスサンプルを喑室中において 4Wのブラックライト (低圧水銀灯、中心 波長 254mn、サンプル入射面紫外線強度 1.4mW/cV)上に置き、紫外線を照射しな がら、サンプルの輝度を揮度計 (MINOLTA LS— 110)を用いて測定した。また、同サ ンプルについて、 254nmでの紫外線透過率を測定した。さら〖こ、同サンプルについて 315應での紫外線透過率も測定した。
[0049] その結果を比較例 6〜7についての結果とともに表 2に示す。また、実施例 7で得ら れたガラスについての蛍光スペクトルを図 3に示す。 [表 2]

表 2および図 3に示す結果から、本発明の蛍光ガラスによれば、添加剤成分として の SnOおよび CeOの量と Fe 0量とを制御することにより、白色域において 55cd/m2
