- the invention relates to a product in powder form, intended for the protection of molds for casting cast iron pipes produced by centrifugal casting; the casting molds used are commonly referred to as "shells".
- the coatings used to protect the centrifugal casting shells of cast iron pipes were first made of inoculants and powdered refractory materials, as well as mixtures of silica and bentonite, put in place by spraying a suspension aqueous. Such coatings are described for example in US Patent 4,058,153 to Pont-à-Mousson. Subsequently, these products were replaced by powders sprayed dry on the shell before casting the iron, a technique known as “dry spray”. Whatever the technique used for their installation, these products are used to obtain on the one hand a thermal barrier effect limiting the rise in temperature of the shell and thus contributing to increasing its lifespan, and on the other hand an inoculating effect on the cast iron so as to control the metallurgical structure of the pipe.
