Definitions
- the invention relates to an electric drive, in particular for a fan of a motor vehicle, with an electric drive motor and with a control unit for controlling the drive motor, the drive motor comprising a commutator and current leads held on the commutator, and the control unit having a circuit board.
- the invention also relates to an electric fan, in particular for motor vehicles, with such an electric drive and with a fan wheel which can be driven by the drive motor.
- Electric drives of the type mentioned above are used in particular in motor vehicles to drive electrical fans which interact with a cooler unit of the motor vehicle.
- the drive motor is usually assembled with a fan wheel to form a structural unit, while the control unit is connected to the drive motor via electrical connection cables and is arranged in a separate housing at a distance from the drive motor.
- the control unit enables power-controlled control of the drive motor and, for this purpose, usually comprises power electronics with at least one semiconductor switch active in a load circuit, generally an FET output stage switch, for switching a supply current for the drive motor and control electronics for controlling the semiconductor switch.
- the Power and control electronics are held on the circuit board as a common electronic assembly. Control units of this type are known, for example, from German published patent application DE 197 02 949 AI.
- the object of the present invention is to develop an electric drive of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it has a structurally simpler structure and can be assembled more cost-effectively.
- control unit and the drive motor form a structural unit and are arranged in a common housing for this purpose.
- Such a compact arrangement requires significantly less space than is the case with conventional fan drives which are composed of several individual components.
- construction according to the invention is distinguished by very good electromagnetic compatibility, since the power electronics of the control unit are arranged directly adjacent to the drive motor and are surrounded by it together with the housing, which reliably prevents radiation of electromagnetic interference radiation.
- the handling of the electric drive is also considerably relieved.
- design of the electric drive in the form of a structural unit results in less susceptibility to faults.
- the electric drive motor is designed as a commutator motor with a commutator (commutator).
- the commutator is held in the usual way on a rotating armature of the drive motor.
- Current leads are held on the commutator by grinding, which are fixed within the housing in accordance with a fixed stand of the drive motor.
- the power supply lines are held on the circuit board which receives the electronics module of the control unit. This results in a particularly compact design and an improved dissipation of the heat occurring at the power supply lines, as a result of which the temperature of the power supply lines is reduced and thus their service life is considerably extended.
- Another advantage of the configuration according to the invention is that the arrangement of the current leads on the circuit board of the control unit enables a short connection, in particular between the power electronics of the control unit and the current leads. This leads to an improved efficiency of the overall system.
- the short connection between the control unit and the power supply leads also to an improved electromagnetic compatibility, since the length of the energy-radiating and absorbing connecting lines is shortened.
- the electric drive according to the invention is also characterized by lower manufacturing costs, since a separate mounting of the power supply lines can be omitted. This also simplifies the assembly of the electric drive.
- control unit comprises a heat sink which is thermally coupled to the power supply lines.
- the heat sink not only performs the task of dissipating the heat that occurs in particular on the power electronics of the control unit to the environment, but also serves to cool the power supply lines that are thermally coupled to the heat sink.
- the coupling can take place here via the printed circuit board of the control unit, which bears both on the heat sink and on the power supply lines.
- the heat sink preferably comprises a plurality of cooling elements, which are arranged on a ventilation opening of the housing, and a holding element, on which the printed circuit board is fixed.
- a cooling air flow generated by the fan leads through the ventilation opening at which the cooling elements of the heat sink are held, so that particularly effective heat dissipation is ensured.
- the holding element of the heat sink surrounds the circuit board in a ring, since this ensures particularly effective heat dissipation.
- a particularly space-saving configuration can advantageously be achieved in that the printed circuit board surrounds the motor shaft of the electric drive motor in the circumferential direction. It has proven to be particularly favorable here if the printed circuit board is designed to be approximately circular.
- the printed circuit board, together with the power supply lines and the heat sink forms an independently manageable structural unit.
- Such a configuration considerably simplifies the assembly of the electric drive, since it is only necessary to mount the drive motor and the above-mentioned structural unit together in one housing. This enables, in particular, a pre-assembly of the structural unit, comprising the printed circuit board with the electronic assembly arranged thereon, the power supply lines and the heat sink.
- the power supply lines are preferably designed as carbon brushes. Alternatively, a copper wire mesh could also be used for the power supply.
- the electric drive according to the invention is particularly suitable for use in an electric fan, preferably for Motor vehicles.
- the fan here comprises a fan wheel which can be set in rotation by the drive motor. It has proven to be particularly favorable here if a cooling air flow can be generated by means of the fan wheel within the housing, which coolant covers the printed circuit board and the current leads held thereon.
- the housing has an air outlet opening adjacent to the fan wheel and an air inlet opening at a distance therefrom, a negative pressure being able to be generated in the region of the air outlet opening by means of the fan wheel and a suction flow being formed within the housing from the air inlet opening to the air outlet opening.
- the circuit board with the current leads held thereon is preferably arranged adjacent to the air inlet or air outlet opening.
- an arrangement in the area of the air inlet opening has proven to be particularly advantageous for achieving good heat dissipation.
- Figure 1 is a schematic sectional view of an electric fan for a motor vehicle with an electric drive
- FIG. 2 is a diagrammatic representation of an independently manageable assembly of the electric drive comprising a heat sink with a circuit board attached to it and carbon brushes held thereon.
- 1 schematically shows an electric fan, generally designated by reference number 10, which can be used in particular in motor vehicles, wherein it is positioned on a cooler unit within the engine compartment, so that an air flow generated by fan 10 can be directed onto the cooler unit ,
- the electric fan 10 comprises a fan wheel 12 and a drive motor 14, which is referred to below as a fan motor.
- an electronic control unit 16 is provided, which is arranged together with the fan motor 14 in an essentially cylindrical housing 18.
- the housing 18 comprises a front bearing cover 20 which faces the fan wheel 12 and a rear bearing cover 22 which faces away from the fan wheel 12 and which close off a housing shell 24 surrounding the control unit 16 and the fan motor 14 in the circumferential direction.
- the front bearing cover 20 and the rear bearing cover 22 each form a bearing for a motor shaft 26 which protrudes from the front bearing cover 20 and defines a longitudinal axis 27 of the fan motor 14.
- the fan wheel 12 is designed as an axial fan and has a fan cup 36 which overlaps the front bearing cover 20 of the housing 18, which is essentially U-shaped and comprises a bottom wall 38 oriented transversely to the longitudinal axis 27 and a side wall 40 which is integrally connected to the bottom wall 38 in the form of a cylinder jacket aligned coaxially to the longitudinal axis 27.
- a fan cup 36 which overlaps the front bearing cover 20 of the housing 18, which is essentially U-shaped and comprises a bottom wall 38 oriented transversely to the longitudinal axis 27 and a side wall 40 which is integrally connected to the bottom wall 38 in the form of a cylinder jacket aligned coaxially to the longitudinal axis 27.
- the fan wheel 12 has an outer ring 42, and a plurality of radially oriented fan blades 44 run between the side wall 40 and the outer ring 42 in a conventional manner.
- a sleeve 46 is formed on the bottom wall 38 of the fan cup 36, via which the fan wheel 12 is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the fan motor 14, so that the fan wheel 12 can be driven to rotate about the longitudinal axis 27.
- the electrical control unit arranged within the housing 18 serves for the power-controlled operation of the fan motor 12.
- the control unit 16 comprises an annular printed circuit board 50 which is held within the housing 18 adjacent to the rear bearing cover 22 and aligned parallel to it and surrounds the motor shaft 26 in the circumferential direction.
- the circuit board 50 accommodates, in a manner known per se and therefore not shown in the drawing, an electronic assembly which comprises a multiplicity of electronic components which are held on the circuit board 50 and are in electrical connection with one another via electrical conductor tracks.
- the electronic components are not shown in FIG. 2 for better clarity.
- the control unit 16 conventionally comprises' nschaltern amplifier FET control electronics for generating pulse-modulated control signals as well as power electronics with a plurality, such as 197 02 949 Al for example known from the German Offenlegungsschrift DE.
- the on the circuit board 50 held electronic components are electrically connected via connection lines 52 led out of the housing 18 to a voltage supply and to a control device, for example a central engine management system of a motor vehicle.
- the circuit board 50 is held within the housing 18 via a metallic heat sink 54, which in turn is fixed on the rear bearing cover 22 and has a plurality of cooling fins 56 and a retaining ring 80 encompassing the circuit board 50.
- the cooling fins pass through an air inlet opening 58 arranged adjacent to the rear bearing cover 22 and molded into the housing jacket 24.
- Corresponding air outlet openings 60 are provided on the front bearing cover 20, so that a cooling air flow 62 can be passed through the housing 18 via the air inlet opening 58 and the air outlet opening 60.
- a plurality of fins 63 oriented perpendicular to the side wall 40 are provided on the inside 41 of the side wall 40 of the fan cup 36 facing the sleeve 56, at a uniform distance from one another. If the fan wheel 12 is driven by the fan motor 14 to perform a rotary movement, the air inside the fan cup 36 is set in rotation due to the fins 63 oriented transversely to the direction of rotation of the fan wheel 12. This rotational movement in turn has the result that a centrifugal force acts on the air, so that the air is thrown obliquely outwards.
- a negative pressure is generated within the fan cup 36 in the region of the air outlet openings 60 arranged on the front bearing cover 20, which in turn has the consequence that air is sucked in via the air inlet opening 58.
- the drive 30 thus forms the cooling air flow 62 which, starting from the air inlet opening 58, is initially oriented essentially radially with respect to the longitudinal axis 27 and forms a radial flow section adjacent to the printed circuit board 50. In the direction of the front bearing cover 20, the cooling air flow 62 then changes into an essentially axially aligned flow section and exits the housing 18 through the air outlet openings 60.
- the cooling fins 56 of the heat sink 54 are arranged within the air inlet opening 58 and are therefore flowed through by the cooling air flow 62. This results in effective cooling of the heat sink 54 and the circuit board 50 fixed thereon.
- the fan motor 14 is also effectively cooled, since it is covered by the cooling air flow 62 practically along its entire longitudinal extent.
- the fan motor 14 is designed as a commutator motor. It comprises in the usual way a stand 66 fixed to the housing 18 and an armature 68 which is rotatably mounted on the bearing caps 20 and 22.
- a commutator 70 is held on the armature 68 at the level of the circuit board 50, on which two carbon brushes 72, 74 are grinding. The latter are held on the circuit board 50.
- two carbon brush holders 76, 78 are fixed to the circuit board 50, each of which receives a carbon brush 72 and 74, respectively.
- the carbon brush holders 76, 78 here form a housing in which the carbon brushes 72 and 74 are held displaceably in the direction of the commutator 70. As is clear from FIG.
- the circuit board 50 is surrounded in the circumferential direction by the retaining ring 80, which is connected in one piece to the cooling fins 56 and on which the circuit board 50 is fixed.
- the retaining ring 80 forms part of the heat sink 54 and is directly adjacent to the carbon brush holders 76 and 78. This ensures optimum heat dissipation from the carbon brushes 72 and 74 via the carbon brush holders 76 and 78 and the printed circuit board 50 to the heat sink 54.
- the consequence of this is that the carbon brushes 72 and 74 have a relatively low temperature when the electric drive 30 is in operation, which considerably extends the service life of the electric drive.
- the carbon brushes 72 and 74 are connected to the power electronics of the control unit 16 via copper lines, not known in the drawing, which are known per se. Due to the arrangement of the carbon brushes 72 and 74 on the circuit board 50, the electrical connecting lines can be kept very short, so that the overall efficiency of the electrical drive 30 is very good and the radiation and absorption of electromagnetic interference radiation are kept low.
- the heat sink 54 in combination with the printed circuit board 50 and the carbon brushes 72, 74 with associated carbon brush holders 76, 78 forms an independently manageable structural unit, which simplifies the assembly of the electric drive 30.
