THOMAS H. CHENEY, OF MILFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A BELT-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,652, dated June 11, 1901.
Application filed May 11, 1901- Serial No, 59,871. Tenn of patent 7 years,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. CHENEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Belt- .Guard, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a front view, Fig. 2 an edge view, and Fig. 3 a rear view, of my novel design of belt-guard.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the leading or material features of my design consist in the special shape, graceful outlines, and raised edge around the pocket portion thereof, as will now be described.
The belt-guard consists of a plain metallic structure comprising a front depending lip A, having a central concave recess B in its top edge and concavo-con vex outer side edges C. The central convex portion C extends well down, producing a greater breadth to the lip at that point than upon either side. Horizontal top portions D D at either side connect with the lip and extend rearward at a right angle thereto.
The rear of the device comprises a vertically-disposed member E, connected to the top portions D D, and disposed downward therefrom parallel with the front lip portion before mentioned. The central part of this back portion is open, forming a substantially V-shaped pocket F, the side walls G of which are slightly convex and the bottom H being rounded with a raised oval edge I, formed on the front side thereof. The upper end J ofsaid raised portion is turned in slightly past the side walls of the back and then deflected outward, as clearly appears in Figs. 1 and 3. The outer edge of this rear portion E comprises concave sides with a rounded lower edge to conform in outline with the rounded inner edge of the back.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-- The design for abelt-guard, as herein shown and described.
Signed at Bridgeport, in the con nty of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, this 27th day of April, A. D. 1901.
THOMASl-I. CHENEY. \Vitnesses:
O. M. NEWMAN, W. V. DEVITT.
