UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS CHAMBERS REID, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A PUZZLE-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,143, dated January 11, 1898.
Application filed October 7, 1897. Serial No. 654,466. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS CHAMBERS REID, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Puzzle- Goards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan View of a puzzle-board, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the material featn re of my design is a raised figure, formed of a combination of ribs or partitions, rising from a flat surface and within a rectangular boundary, disposed or arranged as shown in Fig. 1. These ribs or partitions are in detail as follows: From points at one side of the board in the surrounding wall or frame 1' and near the ends thereof the curved partitions A 13 extend parallel with each other to points near the center of the board, where they are crossed by the straight partitions a b, which are parallel to the sides of the board. This figure is repeated on the opposite side of. the board in the partition A B a D.
From the point where the partition B joins the wall \V a partition extends in a double curve toward the partition a, terminating at a point slightly beyond the nearest end of the partition a. On the opposite side of the board a partition of the same shape 0' one tends from the point where the partition B joins wail W to a corresponding point near the partition a. \Vithin the figure formed by the partitions O B C 3' lies a rib or partition D in the shape of an elongated U, with its opening embracing the ends of the partitions 1) l), and within this and having its opening in the reverse direction is the horseshoe-shaped partition E. Between the partitions B B and the end of the board nearest thereto is a bow-shaped partition F, lying opposite the space between the partitions b b and having its concave side toward the adjacent end of the board. Near the opposite end of the board and at the foot of a sloping surface II, which extends upward from the floor of the board to the end wall thereof, is a second bow-shaped partition G, the convex side of which is toward the adjacent end of the board and which completes the figure.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a puzzle-board, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of October, A. D. 1897.
T. CHAMBERS REID.
