DESIGN FOR A SWlNGlNG BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,588, dated August 20, 1895.
Application tiled July 8, 1895. Serial No. 555,340. Term of patent 14 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MAGPHAIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Blue Island, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Swinging Brackets, of which the following is a specification, ref- "ence being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a bracketmade after my design, and Fig. 2 a sectional view of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The main feature of the design consists in the general form of the bracket and certain projections raised thereon.
The body A of the bracket is of skeletonplate form, the main part of the upper portion being a plain-faced section a, as shown in Fig. 1. About half Way the length of the bracket this facesection is bent backward slightly, as seen at a in the drawings. Beyond this bend the central portion of the plate is cutaway lengthwise, and there are two side pieces a extending in the same direction as the face section a,but in adifferent plane, which, as seen in Fig. 2, is parallel to that of the face portion a. These side pieces or arms do not terminate abruptly, but at at their extremities are bent around outward and doubled back part way on themselves. The shape of the bend is indicated by a and 0. indicates the return portion of these side pieces or arms. Just about at the beginning of the bend there is a short cross-piece a and a similar cross-piece a on the opposite side of the bend connecting the returning portions 0. at or near their junction with the bend.
This portion of the design, described above, may be called the face or obverse. The back or reverse is slightly different. In all its main features of shape or form it is the same as the face described above and follows the same contour lines; but there is added a flange B, arranged near the outer edges of the section a, following directly along the same and then extending centrally along the arms or side pieces a and around the bend in the latter about to the extremities of the returning sections a. The plane of each of said flanges, referring to its width, is the same throughout thelength of the flange-that is, it does not vary laterally, although in the other direction the flanges harmonize with the curved form of the bracket-body described above. A ring 0 extends from the plain-faced sect-ion a at the end opposite to the bent arms or side pieces a, the width of the ring being equal to the thickness of the face a and the width of the flanges B, and all these parts named are in one piece, as seen in the drawings.
Having thus described a swinging bracket shaped in accordance with my improved design, what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a swinging bracket, substantially as herein shown and described.
