Description

AU 291 E DESIGN.
A. S. MILES. HAT BRUSH.
N 23357, Patented June 19, 1894,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED S. MILES, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A HAT-BRUSH.
SYECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,367, dated June 19, 1894.
Application filed April 18, 1394. Serial No. 508,046. Term of patent '7 years.
To ail whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that 1, ALFRED S. MILES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Hat-Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one side of the brush, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing the opposite side.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
The handle is composed of a piece A having a rim B extending overitsedges, forming a border for the handle. The rim or border B may be ornamented in any desirable way, the piece A being left plain on both sides, as shown, to receive any matter which may be printed thereon. The ends of the rim spread at the bottom and unite with the top of the brush back 0., at about the central part thereof. This back 0, as shown, is rounded at the ends, and its sides are curved in parallel directions, afiording the bent or curved back. The bristles, D, project from the back in the same direction as the handle (but from the opposite face of the back) and assume the same general curve as the back, that is, concave on one side and convex on the other. The design of the brush thus constituted is readily distinguishable from other designs of brushes by reason of the peculiar forms or outlines given the various members and the general appearance of the whole the leading characteristic features of the design being the curved body of bristles, the curved back, the rimmed handle projecting from the back and the flat faces of the handle.
Having now fully described and shown my new and original design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The design for a hat brush, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 14th day April, A. D. 1894.
ALFRED S. MILES.
