ROCKING-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,548, dated March 13, 1894.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that], J AMEsR. MciILvRIE of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rocking-Chairs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rocking chairs; and my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I, represents a perspective of a rocking chair with my improvement attached. Fig. II, is a longitudinal section of the tread taken on line .11, II, Fig. IV. Fig. III, is a cross section taken on line III, III, Fig. I. Fig. IV, represents a detail perspective of the tread. 1
Referring to the drawings: 1, represents a rocking chair having ordinary rockers 2, formed with a fiat under surface 3. To the under surface of the rocker I secure an elastic tread 4, preferably formed of rubber. The tread 4, is semi-circular 0r plano-convex in cross section and may be provided with a central aperture 5. A tread made in semi-circular form presents a flat surface by which the same may be secured to the rocker by means of glue or other medium, and presentsa convex surface to the floor.
The tread 4, has its Y ends closed by means of a cap-piece 6, dovetailed as shown at 7, which fits over the dovetail portion 8, on the end of the tread 6, closing up the ends at the front'and rear of the tread, making a neat finish to the same.
I claim as my invention- 1. A rocker 2 constructed with a fiat under surface 3, and an elastic plane-convex tread 4, secured thereto, havingdovetailed ends 8, and provided with cap pieces 6; each of the cap-pieces having dovetailed sockets 7 fitting over the dovetailed ends of the tread; substantially as described.
2. A rocker 2 constructed with a flat under surface 3, and an elastic plano-convex tread 4, secured thereto, formed with a central aperture'5 and dovetailed ends 8, and provided with cap pieces 6; each of the cap pieces having dovetailed sockets 7 fitting over the dovetailed ends of the tread; substantially as described.
3. A rocker 2 constructed with a flat under surface 3, and an elastic plano convex tread 4 secured thereto by adhesive material, and
formed with a central aperture 5 and dovetailed ends 8,and provided with cap pieces 6;
each of the cap pieces having dovetailed sockets 7 fitting over the dovetailed ends of the tread; substantially as described.
