[0 The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

15 The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet, showing my new design.

My design consists of the body A and the border B. The body A consists of an cscutcheon surrounded by an intertwined regular spirally-arranged eonventionalized leaf and flower-branch upon a shaded ground.

The border ll consists of an eseutcheon surrounded by an intertwined regular spirallyarrauged conventionalized leaf and branch forms apparently supporting a vase containing flower forms upon a shaded ground, of an ornamented inner margin and of an outer shaded margin decorated with conventionalized flower and leaf forms.

\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters lalent, is-

l. The design for a carpet, cousistiugof the body A, substantially as shown.

2. The design for carpets, consisting of the border B, substantially as shown.

3. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A and the border I substantially as shown.
