[EN RY PITA TIIERS,
S EPP DESIGN FOR FABRIC FOR CLOAKING, 800.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY TOPHAM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO SOIIEPPERS BROTHERS, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR FABRIC FOR CLOAKING, 8w.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,083, dated May 7, 1889. Application filed March 28, 1889- Serial No. 305,492. Term of patent 3% years.
.To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY TOPHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Fabric for Cloaking, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming part hereof, illustrating in front elevation the design for fabric for cloaking, &c., embodying the characteristic features of the invention.
The leading features of this design consists, broadly, of irregular or fanciful configurations of beet-shaped outline disposed over the entire surface of the goods, as hereinafter more particularly described.
Referring to the accompanying photograph, forming part hereof, A represents the irregular or fanciful configuration of beet-shaped outline, composed of slanting or parallel full or dotted lines. The broken dotted bars C and the full-line bars D lie parallel, or substantially so, to each other and to the ends of the goods, thereby presenting to the eye irregular or fanciful configurations of beet shaped outline with gracefully curved branches extending therefrom and disposed over the entire surface of the goods.
Starting now from the upper part of the irregular beet-shaped figure, the right-hand side thereof presents to the eye the appearance of an elongated letter S (designated in the photograph by the letter C',) having curved branches a, b, and 0 arranged outside the beet-shaped figure, and with curved branches d, e, and f, which curve gracefully Within the field of the beet-shaped figure. Turning now to the left-hand side of the said configuration and there is presented to the eye a similar S-shaped figure, (designated in the photograph by the letter 0 but inversely disposed. Vv'ithin the center or field thereof, of beet like shape, inclosed between similar curves, 0 and C is a square spot, K, having small squares, It, at the respective corners thereof, and Within the centers of the respective fields of the several curved branches a, b, c, d, e, and f of the beet-shaped configurations are the oblong or rectangular spots a, b, c, d, e, and f. Beneath the point of intersection of the similar shaped curves 0' and C is an inverselydisposed V -shaped figure having a conventional spear-head, 'm, in the center or the field included therein.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for fabric for cloaking, &c., as herein described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HENRY TOPHAM.
