DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,422, dated July 3, 1888.
Applicali n filcrl May 16, 1888. Serial No, 274,882
To (LZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD J. KING and W ILLIAM H. WrLKINsoN, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new Design for a Heating- Stove, which is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying photograph.
This stove is designed fora parlor or sitting room heater; and it consists of a rectangular base with a. leg at each corner, a body rectangular in cross section with deep lateral chanr hers at each side, one constitntinga door, and an overhanging swelled top surmounted by a perforated dome-shaped cover, upon which rests an ornamental urn, the latter, however, not claimed to be new.
The base A has a plain periphery with rounded corners. The legs are formed at their front surfaces to represent in a manner the human face, the sides of each face being formed with representations of feathered wings, in each of which wings an eye of the face is located. The nose projects from between the two wings of each face, as shown.
The body of the stove is formed with a. vertical pilaster, a, at each of the front corners, the surfacesof which are ornamented with leaf and scroll work above and below a central tile in each. Between the pilasters the front plate of the stove is formed with a projecting part, B, resembling a front door, having a slightly arched top and an upper row of three micaopenings, b, and lower row of four draft-openings, c, the piers d between the former being ornamented with leaves and other work, as shown. Above the part B is a part, 0, projecting to a less distance, having also an arched top and concaved dihedral angles.
One prominent feature of this stove is the two similarside swells or projecting chambers D and E, the latter being the door of thestove. These projections correspond to bay-windows in architecture, and are ornamented as shown at their outer central panels or faces, they having plain bands e,with convex dihedral anglesf and h0rizontally-beaded bases 9. At its upper part the body of the stove curves 'lrrm of patent 7 years.
outward at its four sides by concaved planes to meet the lower band, h, of the top F.
The top F is formed above the band ll with swelled or rounded angles ornamenled, as shown, with beaded niches 0, to receive the bolt-heads. These niches are in the front and rear convex faces of the top, the corresponding end convex faces being provided with vertieal figures or stripes s, correspondingly located with the niches, to represent or take the place of the latter.
The .dome G, surmounling the top F of the stove, has a. plain peripheral bflll(l,]l, at its base, immediately above which is a line or belt of feed and flat or running die, 2. Above this the dome is pierced by openings is, sub stantially rectangular, of a plain or rustic form, above which is a field of open scroll-work. 15, extending to a plain horizontal seat, 2, for the slab or base a of the urn. The door is held closed by a latch ornamented as shown.
A foot rail, r, substantially ofcomniou kind, is placed in front of the stove in the usual place for footrails.
A spark arrester, n, is placed in front of the draftopenings c, as shown. This consists of a horizontal band ornamented upon its outer surface and turned backward at its ends to meet the front plate of the stove, its form givinga. space back of it and in front of said draft-openings c. It is recessed at the middle of its upper edge and formed at its endswilh upward extended arms where it is secured to the stove.
\Vhat we claim as our invention is 1. In a design for a heating-stove herein shown and described, a leg having its outer surfaces formed to represent a human face, and a representation of a feathered wing at each side, each wing containing one eye of the face, and the nose projecting between said wings, substantially as shown.
2. In a design for a heating stove herein shown and described, the body of the stove formed with a lateral chamber, D, at one side and adoor, E, at the opposite side similar to said chamber D, and further formed with pi- 5 lasters at its front corners, a perforated projecbingparti, B, and a lesser part, U, both having arched tops, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for n hentingstove herein shown and described, a door formed with an ornamental eenlirnl lure-panel with plain eonvex orswelled dihedral nnglesf, plain peripheral band a, and horizontal bended base-band y, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a design for a healing-stove herein shown and described, lhetop F, having a plain base-band, h, with rounded corners and convexed dihedral angles, ornamented as shown, beaded niches 0, and corresponding stripes, s, substantially as shown.
5. in a design for n heatingstove herein shown and described, a cover or dome formed with a plain band, 11, a band of running die ornamentation, i, u band of rustic openings, in. n field of open scrollwork, I", and plain bended sent 1, said parts of lilKHlOlllG being enumerated from below upward, substantially as shown.
