DESIGN FOR A KNOB AND LATCH ESCU'I'CHEON-PLATE.

Beit Aknown that I, GEORGE S. BARKENTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State 5 of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Knob and Latch Escutcheon-Plate, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.

1o The only gure of said drawing is a front elevation of my newly-designed escutcheonplate for a door latch and lock.

Surrounding the knob-escutcheon A is a plain surface whose general form is rectangu- 15 lar, above and below which there is a raised bar or band, a, surrounding the central panel. This bar or band curves inwardly from each corner of the rectangular plain surface of the knob-escutcheon, and then extends in right 2o lines. Inside the band a, above the knob-escutcheon, there are conventional leaves or branches connected by a transverse bar, said ornaments being on a roughened ground. Immediately below said escuteheon A the or- 25 namental ligure is in the forni of a ring with a looped bar in four loops, through which the ring passes. Below this there is a transverse bar, b, extending across the central panel at the top of the lock or key-hole escutcheon B.

This lower part of the central panel is orna- 3o mented by lines and a series of rectangular depressions contiguous-to the border band. Outside of the central panel is the main panel, having a plain band or border, c, surrounded by aser'ies of circles and ovals, d, and another plain band, e, having a beveled edge. The space outside of the central panel that is-in closed by the border ornaments c d e is mainly ornamented by groups of leaflets and scrollwork, theleaiiets having concave faces marked 4o with transverse lines.

I claim- 1. In a design for a knob and lock escutcheon, the design for the central panel herein shown and described, the same consisting of 45 the border-band a, curving outwardly at four points, the connecting plain face between the curved portions of said band and the several ornaments inclosed by said border-band.

2. The design for a knob and lock escutcheon 5ov herein shown and described, the sanne consist ing of the central and main panels, with the space between the borders thereof ornamented by groups of leaiiets and scroll figures.
