DESIGN FOR A RUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,832. dated August 3, 1886.
Application tiled June 19, 1856, Serial No. 205,728.
To aU whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs PEGEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany,and a resident of Camden, New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Rugs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photographie illustration, to which reference is made.
In the illustration one end panel ofthe design is omitted, as it would be a mere duplication of the end panel shown.
My design consists of the upper and lower longitudinal borders, A A, composed ol starshaped llowers B B and leaves C C. The inner edges of these borders D D form scallops or points, as shown. A description of end panel, E, will sufiice for both end panels. This panel has straight upright edges F F, with rectangular lines G G, substantially as shown. Each end (top and bottom) is provided with a terminus, H, formed of scrolls, with a middle cap, I, the latter in general form resembling the eurde-lis. The top of the panel has suspended leaves J, and the lower part small begonia-leaves K and small leaves L. The inner edge of the panel is ornamented with small leaves M, and the space between the outer edge of the panel and the edge of the rug is .orna- Term of pate/utili, lyears.

The leading features ol" the design are tbe two end panels, substantially as shown, the 35 upper and lower borders of small flowers and leaves, and the centerornamentation, consisting of large and small leaves in i'orm resem bling the begonia-leaf.
XVhat l claim is- 4o 1. A design for rugs, consisting of the end panels, E, ornamented with llarge and smaller leaves, with straight sides, and upper and lower scroll ornamentations, upper and lower borders, D D, of leaves and ilowers, and the 45 center ornamentation composed of large begonia-leaves, substantially as shown and described.
2. A design for rugs, consisting of the end panels, E, ornamented with large and smaller 50 leaves and separated from the central panel, substantially as shown, said central or large panel being ornamented by large begonialeaves, substantially as shown and described.
