Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES SIMPSON, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HAMIL & BOOTH, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A WOVEN FABRIC.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,962, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed April 13, 18H9. Term of' patent 35 years.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JAMES SIMPSON, of Pat.- erson, in the county of Passaic and State ot New Jersey-*,haveinvented anew and Improved Design for W'oven Fabrics, ot' which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which a piece of my newly-designed woven fabric is shown.
My design for woven fabrics consists in the representation ot' a series ot' parallel stripes, A, of lace-work, made to represent a series ot' pieces, B, of lace, overlapping each other at the ends. Flowers O are woven on the stripes A of imitation lace, and ilowers C are woven in the blank stripes D between the stripes A. of imitation lace. The ilowers C are placed about midway between the owers O', so that there will be a flower alternately on the imitationlace stripes A and on the blank stripes D. The ilowcrs O O' are provided with stems and leaves, and the flowers() extend in one direction and the flowers O in the opposite direction-that is, if the ilowers C are at the upper ends of the stems the flowers C are at the lower ends of tliestems. The ilowers C are arranged on the representations of the pieces B of lace, the blank and filled pieces B varying alternately. The flowers C will then be at the sides of the blank pieces B. The ground, lace, and flowers may all be of the saine color or of different colors.
I do not wish to limit myself to the exact configuration of the design as shown, but may vary the same more or less, the main feature ot" my design being the imitation stripes of lace-work and the lowers on and between these stripes of lace-work.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein-described design for Woven fabrics, consisting of imitation stripes of lace and ot' flowers on the stripes and on the blank stripes between the imitation stripes of lace, as set forth.
2. The herein-described design for woven fabrics, consisting of imitation stripes of lace and of ilowers, arranged alternately on the imitation stripes of lace and on the blank stripes between these imitation stripes ot' lace, as set forth.
3. The herein-described design for woven fabrics, consisting of imitation stripes of lace and flowers, arranged alternately on the imitation stripes of lace and the blank stripes between them, the flowers on the stripes of imitation lace and on the blank stripes extending in opposite directions, as set forth.
4. The herein-described design for woven fabrics, consisting of imitation' stripes A of lace formed of a series of overlapping imitation pieces, B, of lace, on which pieces B ilowers C are arranged alternately, and of flowers O on the blank stripes D, between the imitation stripes A of lace, the flowers O on the blank stripes D being at the sides of' the blank pieces B, as set forth.
JAMES SIMPSON.
