DESIGN FOR FANCY CASSIMERE.

Specification forming part of Design No. 10,700, dated May 28, 1876 application filed May 13,1878.

Be it known that I, FREDERICK S. 130s won'rlr, ot' the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Design for Fancy Cassimeres and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The novel design hereinafter described consists in the combination and alternation of broad plainly-woven and shaded stripes with narrower figured stripes, the effect produced by said combination being apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made.

The broad stripes A run longitudinally of the fabric, and the sides and central portion of each are shaded in stripes a a a by narrow transverse blocks, which are of a different color than the ground of the fabric. These narrow trans verse shading-blocks are of varying widths, increasing in groups from fine to coarse, and are placed equal distances apart longitudinally of the stripe, the said groups being so arranged in aseries that the widest block of one series is adjacent to the narrowest block of the next series.

In alternation with the broad shaded stripes A are the narrower figured stripes B, upon the plainly-woven ground of each of which there are superimposed figures b, composed of two short transverse bars, extending from each edge toward the center of the stripe, the inner ends of the bars beingjoined by two oppositely-inclined diagonal bars, meeting in a point, the said figures being arranged in alternation on the sides of the stripe, at equal dis tances apart.

The fabric may be woven in any preferred variety or combination of colors for giving a desirable effect to the design above described, the characteristic feature of which is broad plainly-woven stripes A, whose surfaces are shaded in stripes by transverse blocks of varying widths, in combination with figured stripes B, upon whose plainlywoven grounds are superimposed transverse and diagonal bars in connection, the figures so composed being arranged in alternation on the sides of the said stripes.

\Vhat I claim is The design for fancy cassimeres, substantially as herein described, and represented in the drawing.
