DESIGN.
J. GEBAUER. PATTERN FOB. CLOTH PABRIUS.
No. 20,177. Patented Sept. 30, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH GREEE,
OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A PATTERN FOR CLOTH FABRIC.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,177, dated September 30, 1890.
Application filed August 14, 1890. Serial No.362,036- Term of patent 3% years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS GEBAUER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, but now re siding atthe city of Philadelphia,in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced anew and original Design of a Pattern for Cloth Fabrics, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, and which shows the design of the pattern embodying the particular characteristic features of my invention.
The leading features of my design or pattern for a cloth fabric consist, broadly, of numerous block-like configurations, presenting in appearance in the fabric broken stripes, columns, or ribs arranged in diagonal courses, and block-like configurations arranged in similar courses adjacent thereto within and throughout the same.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, a, represents each of a series of block-like configurations, (in white in the illustration,) composed of one material arranged in broken diagonal rows of courses A and forming the stripes or ribs of the fabric. b represents each of a series of similar block-like configurations, (in black inthe illustration,) composed of another material, ar-
ranged in similar rows or courses B adjacent to or adjoining the rows or courses A, having, respectively, zigzag contours. 0 represents each of four block-like configurations constituting the filling woven, or otherwise disposed in diagonal rows or courses between those designated by the letter B. The respective materials closely mesh with one another in such manner as that the material of an inferior nature is not exposed to view upon the face of the fabric, but forms the body of the fabric, while the other material appears promi' nently within and throughout the fabric in broken diagonal stripes or ribsfor example, in the manner illustrated.
Having thus described the particular features of my design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A design or pattern for a cloth fabric, such as hereinbefore described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In witness whereof I have hereunto setmy signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIUS GEBAUER.
