Description

0 ES I G N.
L. DRYPOOS.
QUILTING PATTERN FOB SKIRTS.
No. 16,292. Patented sept. 29, 1885..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS DRYFOOS, or new YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A QUlLTlNG-PATTERN'FOR SKIRTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16.292. dated September 29, 1885.
Application filed April 28, 1885. Term of patent l ly ears,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS DRYFOOS, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Quilting, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawlng, which represents a strip of fabric quilted in accordance with my invention.
The design consists of alternate rows or groups of diamondshaped figures a and zigzags b, formed and arranged as illustratedthat is to say, the spread of the two lines which forms any one angle of the zigzag is equal to the distance which separates the lower or upper corner of one diamond from the corresponding corner of the second from it in the same horizontal or cross row, and the two kinds of groups are brought so near together 20 that their adjoining portions meet and virtually com mingle,
as indicated in the drawing, where it is seen that the zigzag next to the group of diamonds has its points or corners I joined to the corners 2 of the diamonds in the adjoining row, the lines of the zigzag being a continuation of the sides of the diamonds which they join.
In the drawing there are three groups-the central one diamonds and the end ones zigzags; but manifestly this may be reversed without changing the design-that is .to say, there may be a central zigzag group and two end groups of diamonds. A further peculiarity of the design represented is, that the component figures of the 3 design steadily and gradually increase in size, as is required for conical or tapering pieces of fabric, such as are used in conical skirts.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 4 The design for quilted fabrics, consisting of alternate groups of diamond-shaped figures a and zigzags I), joined together at the points 1 and 2, the figures gradually and regularly increasing in size from one end of the design to 4 the opposite end, as hereinbefore described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
L. DRYFOOS.
