DESIGN FOR A CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,946, dated May 23, 1882.

Application filed March 14, 1882. Term of patent 3 years. Registered in England February 22, 1881, No. 362,009.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Beit known that I, HORATIO SMITH, of Kidderminster, England,have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to anew and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration of parts hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.

The letter D represents a branch bearing on it pointed. oblong leaves and circula-r flowers.

Theletter G represents a branch bearing oval rounded leaves and large circular flowers.

E is a vine-like figure bearing oval leaves, rose-like flowers, and circular buds.

F is a ligure resembling a branch with oval leaves, eircularbuds, and roselike open flowers growing thereon.

The figure 7l: is a branch with oval leaves.

g is a background composed of small-pat terned squares resembling basket woven-work.

his a background resembling a series of interlacing strips.

The background t' consists ot' a series ofrectangular figures, as shown.

The background l is a series of diamondshaped gures connected by straight lines.

The background m consists of triangles and small circles arranged to form a pattern.

The background a is composed of circular ligures and crosses arranged in a regular pattern.

The background o consists of oblique ornamen ted bands running parallel to each other.

The background r consists of broken lines crossing each other at right angles.
