Description

UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GANDAOE WHEELER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO WARREN, FULLER & CO., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR WALL-PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,878, dated April 11, 1882.
Application filed February 13, 1882. Term of patent 33,: years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CANDACE WHEELER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Wall-Paper, of which the following specification is a clear description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming` part thereof.
The said drawing represents an elevation of a section of my design for wall-paper. The section of ornamental papering here shown is divided into four distinct lields of ornamentviz., A, B, D, E-by means ofthe transverse or horizontal bands a a, c, F F, (J, C', and O2.
The transverse bands a a, c, and F F are narrow bands or belts enriched with foliated figures. The bands a a ave two in number, placed respectively at the top and bottom ot' the base 2o field A. 'lhc band c is placed a little below the center of the whole section under treatment, and the bands F F are two in number, and placed respectively above and below the top or cornice teld of ornament E. Each of these transverse bauds is quite narrow-say about one or two inches wide, more or lessand it is enriched with foliated ornaments or leaves. The band C is placed just below the band c, and the bands C and O2 are respect- 3o ively placed below and above the two upper bands F F and in contact therewith. The said bands O, C', and C2 are each ofthem about twice the width of the bands a, c, and F, and each of them is ornamented with a tessellated ornament. The base field A is equal to about oneeighth or one-tenth of the whole altitude of the section under treatment, and is enriched with geometrical figures. The next higher field ofornament, B, is equal in height to about one-quarter ofthe height ofthe section under 4o treatment, and is enriched with foliated vegetation and insectivorous figures. The next higher field of ornament, D, occupies about one-third of the height (more or less) of the section under treatment, and is enriched by means of intersecting lines, forming small geometrical iigures, like lace-work, and also by insectivorous figures scattered irregularly over the surface ot' a cloud-like and lorally-decorated background. The cornice field E is quite narrow 5o compared with the fields B and C, and it is ornamented by circular figures somewhat in the usual form of archery targets, and also with foliation and with representations ot' insectivorouslife. These tiguresand ornaments may be printed or painted on the paper in any desired colors or combination of colors and on any desired color of background.
Having described my invention or design, I diaim- 6o The ornamental design for wall-paper or paper-hangings, consisting of the transverse or horizontal foliated bands a e, c, and F F and the transverse or horizontal tessellated bands or belts C, C', and O2, with their intermediate 65 p anelings or fields otornament, A, B, D, E, the said fields of ornament being enriched with geometrical lgures, foliation, and insectivorous designs, substantially as described and set forth.
CANDACE WHEELER. Witnesses:
