Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PROSPER TTREL, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO THE BIGELOW CAR- PET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,613, dated January 20, 1880,
Application iled December' 9, 1879. Term of patent years.
'To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that .1, PRosPnR T'rnEL, of Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented a new and original Design for Carpet, ol' which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets, oil-cloths, and similar fabries; and it consists of the new coniguration and ornamentation of parts hereinafter more fully pointed out and described.
The accompanying photographicillustration represents a face view of my new design.
On the background oi' the carpet are a series of groups, A B C.
A is one of the groups of iigures. It is composed of a rectangular ligure, a, partially overlaid with iiowers and leaves and a diamondshaped gure, b, formed of detached checkers. The lower part of figure b is concealed by ure a, which overlaps it, and flowers and leaves are also superposed on iigure b.
B is another one of the group of iigures. Group B is of irregular outline, and it is colnposed ot' overlapping square checkers or scales c, all pointing in the same direction, with ow ers and leaves covering part of the igure.
C is the third ot' the group. It is composed of a half-rhoinbus, d, with flowers superposed on the iield of said rhombus, which, in turn, is placed against and at right angles to a iignre, c, having parallel sides and a pointed end.
G is a field inclosed by a duplicated arrangement of groups AB C-that is to say, it is formed between two groups, A A, at top and bottom, between two groups, B B, diagonally opposite each other at the sides, and two groups, C C, also diagonally opposite to each other, as shown.
H is a iloral group within the field G and between the duplicated groups A B C.
j' f f are three sprays of flowers branching upward from the iioral group H, two of which form borders for the field G and connect the igures A B C, while the third spray traverses the field G.
The field G has a dark lower background, g, against which the lighter leaves of the ilowers are distinctly seen, and its upper portion, It, is light, so that the darker leaves are seen distinctly against it, the outlines ofthe leaves forming the line of division between the portions g and h of the eld G.
I claiml. The design for a carpet, consisting ofthe group A, composed of the rectangular figure a and diamond b, substantially as shown.
2. The design for a carpet, consisting of the group B, which is composed of square overlapping checkers or scales c, all pointing in one direction, substantially as shown.
3. The design for a carpet, consisting of group C, composed of igures d. and e, substantially as shown.
Il. The design for a carpet, consisting of the groups A B C, lioral group H, and field G, substantially as shown.
5. The design for a carpet, consisting of the iield G and iloral groups El fff, the iield G having two portions, g h, of dii'erent colors, the line ot' division being formed by the outlines of the leaves of groups H f f, substantially as shown.
The above description of my invention signed by lne this 21st day of October, 1879.
