DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL WINDOW-SHADE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,589, dated December 6, 1881.
Application filed November 1, 1881. Term of patent 3Q years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL RICHTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at and doing business in the city of New York, in the 5 county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamenting `Window Shades or Curtains, of which the following is a. full and clear description, reference being had to the accompanying 1o drawing.
The said drawing consists ot' an elevation of the portieri of the curtain containing my irnproved ornamental device.
The design or ornamentation consists ofthe 15 following: Two narrow lines, A A', about oneeighth or one-quarter of an inch wide, more or less, extend across the whole width of the curtain, at about five or six inches apart, and below the lower one ot' these lines or bands, A,
zo is a broader band or base-piece, A2, equal in length to the line A, and about five or six times the width ot' the said line or band A. The base or band A2 is ornamented with a longitudinal running scroll or enrichment, af, with two 25 parallel rows of dots, et' and o2, by the sides of and parallel with it. '.lhe field of ornament between the lines A A is enriched with a center shell-like figure, B, with two circular-bodied vase-shaped gures, C C', near the sides ofthe 3o curtain, and oval shield-like figures D D', placed in the space between the ornaments B C and B C', respectively, while the remainder of the field of ornamentation is richly covered with foliated vines and flowers F, someofwhich extend above the line A' and some below the 35 line A. The shell piece or central figure, B, is somewhat in equilateral Gothic forni of contour. and is filled in with an elaborate scrollwork, b, while above this central figure the foliated and iloral crest B' rises some inches 4o above the other parts of the design, so as to form a prominent and picturesqneeentral apex high above the restofthe ornamentation ot'the design. The height ofthe rasesGG'eqnals the width ofthe ornamental t'ieltl between the lines 45 Annd A', and theyv show toliated plantsand tig nres projecting ont of the tops of them above the line A'. rDhe various parts ot' this ornamentation and the ground on which itis printed muy be of any desired colors, and the relative 5o positions ofthe ornaments C C and D D' may ot' course be transposed without att'ecting the design herein described.
Having described my invention ortlesign, I claim- The ornamental design for a window curtain or shade, consisting ot the lilies A, A', and A2, the central figure, B, the vase ornamentation C C', the intermediate figures, D D', and the foliation F, designed and arranged substan- 6o tially as described.
