No. 29,7471 Patented Nov. 29, |898. C. S. HINDS.
GAME BOARD.
(Appliultion Mod Nov. b, 1898.) L
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES SUMNER IIINDS, OF FAOTORYVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A GAM E-BOARD.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 29,747, dated November 29, 1898. Application filed November 5, 189B. Serial No. 695,624. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SUMNER IIINDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Factoryville, in the county of lVyoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Game-Board, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a game-board; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character which shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a game-board having a flat surface divided into three adjoining oblong fields, the oppositely-located duplicate side lields being of a uniform checkered configuration with rows 0f alternating light and dark squares, and the central field, which separates the side lields, having rows of light and dark squares, certain of which are grouped together at intervals to form in the dark shades of the squares prominent L-shaped and oblong figures.
In the drawings, Figure l is aplan view of a game-board embodying the herein-described design. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View of the game-board.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates a gameboard of a rectangular form and having on one side thereof a dat playin g-surface lf. The flat playin g-surface l of the game-board is also rectangular in outline and is divided into three adjoining oblong fields, (designated by the numerals 2, 2, and 3, respectively.) The oblong fields 2 and 2'* are the marginal fields of the ga1neboard and are duplicates in appearance or design, being of a uniform checkered contiguration with rows of regularly-alternating light and dark squares 3 and et, respectively, it of course being understood that said squares 3 and 4 of the regularly and uniformly checkered fields 2 and 2n are given a relatively light and dark appearance by any suitable colors.
The oppositely duplicate checkered fields l and 2 are separated by the intermediate or central tield 3, which central field is also provided with rows of light and dark squares 5 and 6, respectively, which light and dark squares in each row of the central lield 3 also bear an alternate relation. Certain of the light and dark squares 5 and (j within the central iield 3 are grouped together at intervals, and this grouping of said squares produces in the dark shades G prominent L- shaped and oblong figures. r
The playing-surface 2 of the game-board is provided with the three adjoining elds 2, 2, and 3 to indicate the ground covered by opposing military forces, the fields 2 and 2 being indicative of the original positions of the forces and the central or intermediate field 3 being indicative of the battle-ground.
The design for a game-board, herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aixed my signature `in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES SUMNER HINDS.
