UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH PARTRIDGE, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR DINING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,545, dated December 23, 1879; application filed October 20, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To-all whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH PARTRIDGE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated a new and useful Design for a Dining-Chair, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
A represents the back posts of the chair, which are curved at a and recurved at I). The front edges or faces, 0, of these posts, from their upper end to the seat B of the chair, (which is circular, or nearly so,) are ornamented by moldings (7. Bridging these posts at or near their upper ends is a head-piece, O, in the form of an open continuous frame, with the open space 0 thereof crossed vertically by ornamental posts f. To the upper edge of this frame, and in line with these ornamental posts f, are placed balls g, the entire head-piece O, in this way formed and ornamented, resembling a coronet.
Extending from one back post, A, to the other, and near the seat B of the chair, is a bar, D, of plain outline, and'curved to the same radius as the head-piece (J; and extending vertically between the head-piece (land bar D, centrally between the back posts A, is a polygonally-shaped piece, E, ornamented on its face, and with an opening, h, formed therein.
Extending from the back posts, A,to the seat B of the chair are braces F, which are formed with the outlines of curves and recurves, as shown in the drawing. The front edges or faces of these braces are ornamented by moldings t, as is likewise ornamented the edge of the front and sides of the frame of the seat B. To the under side of this seat-frame is fixed an ornamental cleat, 7t, of the form and design shown in the drawing.
From the seat-frame depend the front legs, G. These legs are straight and cylindrical in form, and they are ornamentally turned, and united in front by two ornamental braces, l, the front legs being also connected to the back legs, H, by cylindrical braces m, two on each side.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is-- A design for a dining-chair in which the faces or edges of the back posts, A, and of the front and sides of the seat-frame B are ornamented with moldings, and having the headpiece of the design of an entire frame, (I, with the space between the sides of the frame ornamented by spindlesf, and the top edge of the frame by balls g, and with a polygonally shaped piece, E, in part filling the space inclosed by the back posts, A, the head-piece O, and the plain outlined and curved bar D, and with curved and recurved brace-arms F, ornamented on their front edge by moldings i, the seat-frame being also ornamented by a cleat, k, of irregular outline, substantially in the manner described.
JOSIAH PARTRIDGE.
