Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD L. BUOKINGHAM, OF JEFFERSON, VVISOONSIN.
DESIGN FOR A CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,839, dated July 6, 1880. Application filed April 7, 1880. Term of potent 7 years.
To all whom z't may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD L. BUOKING- HAM, of Jefl'erson, in the county of Jefferson and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in designs for chairs; and it consists in the configuration and design, which will be more fully described hereinafter, whereby a beautiful, tasty, and ornamental chair is produced.
The accompanying photographic illustration represents my design.
A represents the seat of the chair, which is scooped, hollowed out, or bent near the back part, so as to form the flange B. Near the frontedge of this seat, on each side, is secured, by bolts or other-suitable fastenings, the bent arms and back (J, of the form here shown, and which are united together only at the pointD by means of the ornamental cross-piece V.
The inner portion of the back consists of the wooden ornamental strip H, of the form shown, and which has a rounding panel at the center and an opening, I, through each end. On each side of this central piece is an ornamental strip, 0, as shown.
These bent arms and backs are supported near the rear edge of the seat by means of the ornamental rods or supports Y.
The legs N of this chairare all straight, the two front ones of which are made of the ornamental design shown, and connected together by an ornamental round, P. The other legs are joined together by the plain round It, and each pair of legs are secured to a rocker, T.
It so preferred, the legs of this chair may be made curved instead of straight.
This chair presents not only a very tasty and beautiful a 'ipearance, but it is specially adapt ed for ease and comfort.
Having thus deseri bed my invention, I claim I The design for a chair, consisting of the seat A, having the raised part B along its rear edge, the arms and back U, curved, as shown, and united at the top by the piece V, the center strip, H, having the openings through its ends, side strips, 6, and ornamental legs N, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of April, 1880.
EDWARD L. BUOKINGHAM.
