DESIGN FOR CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,904, dated April 17, 1877; application filed February 28, 1877. [Term of Patent 31} years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER DIEHL, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a Design for a Chair; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying illustrations, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this Specification, and which are photographs of my design. f
My invention relates to the general shape, or configuration of the frame of a chair, and the distinctive feature of the design is the arrangement of the hind leg, arm, side bar, and seat-frame, as shown by the illustrations, so as to present a pleasing appearauce to the eye.
The side bars b of the back of the chair are straight, and slope slightly backward. They are attached to the seat-frame at the back corners, and are continued below the seat uutil they meetthe hind legs 0.
The arms a are attached at the back to the side bars I), as shown, and at their front ends they curve downward and backward, so that the front of the arm, or rather the front support of the arm, makes, with the arm itself, an acute angle.
The continuation of the front supports of the arms below the seat forms the hind or cross legs 0. The hind legs intersect the side bars b, as before explained, and the side rounds (I are placed at the points of intersection. The acute angle at the front of the arm is ornamented with a scroll; but the ornamentation here shown, as well as that applied to other portions of the frame, may be modified, and other well-known ornamental devices may be substitntediu place thereof, without deviating from the material and essential features of the design;
