UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIeE.
JOSIAH PARTRIDGE, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR NURSE ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,546, dated December 23, 187 9; application filed October 20, 1879.
[Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH PARTRIDGE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated a new and useful Design for a Nurse Rocking-Chair, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
A represents the back posts of the rockingchair. These posts have a. double-curved outline, a and I), the curve 1) extending below the scat- C, (which is nearly circularg) forming the outline of the back legs, D, which are quadrangular in section.
The back posts, A, are ornamented on their front edge or face by an ornamental molding, e. The upper parts of the back posts, A, are spanned by an arched head-piece, E, having the general form of a continuous open frame. At right angles to this head-piece, across its open space (I, are ornamental posts 0; and to further ornament this head-piece, along its upper edge and in line with the posts 6 are fixed five small balls,f, the head-piece and its ornamental posts and balls forming the general appearance of a coronet.
The lower part of the back posts, A, near the seat 0 of the chair, is spanned by a bar, G, which is arched to the same radius as is the head-piece E. This bar G is ornamented with two scallops, g.
From the back posts, A, and extending to the seat F, are braces H. These braces are curved and recurved, as is shown in the drawing, and their edges are ornamented with a molding, h, similar to the molding e of the back posts before mentioned.
The front edge of the seat F is ornamented by a molding, i, from arm to arm, and by an ornamental cleat, j, fixed beneath the same.
To the seat 0 are fixed the front legs, I, which are round and ornamentally turned, as is shown in the drawing. Spanning these front legs is an ornamentally-turned brace, 7c, and extending from these frontlegs areround braces l, which pass to the back legs, D, (two bars on each side,) the back legs being connected by a brace, m. From the lower ends of the frontlegs, I, to the back legs, D, extend rockers J. These rockers are rectangular in section, and they are curved, as shown.
hat I claim as my invention is- A design for a rocking chair in which the head-piece is in the form of a continuous frame, E, with unornamented lower edge, and with its upper edge ornamented by live balls, and the space between the sides of the frame ornamented byspindles c, and with a brace, G, arched, and with unornamented upper edge, and its lower edge ornamented by scallops g g, and with the front edges or faces of the back posts, arm-braces, and scat-frame ornamented by moldings, and the seat-frame further ornamented by a cleat, j, and with ornamentally-turncd frontlcgs, and with rockers J, substantially in the manner described.
JOSIAH PARTRIDGE.
