UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE J. PALMER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR ARM-CHAIR FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,681, dated December 26,1876; application filed November 4, 1876. [Term of Patent 3Q years.|
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE J. PALMER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Arm-Chair Frame, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully shown in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
The invention relates to an improved design for an arm-chair frame; and consists mainly of curved arm braces or supports, extending from the back across the seat-frame to horizontal stay-pieces, supported on outwardly-spreading legs. The arms are supported on bracket-shaped extensions of the arm-braces.
Referring to the illustration, A represents the back frame, to which the seat-frame B is attached. The arm-braces O extend forward from the back frame A in a. curve of elegant shape, crossing the seat-frame at right angles, or nearly so, and connecting at suitable distance below the seat with horizontal staypieces D that connect the front and hind legs. The front legs E are arranged at suitable angle of inclination to the stay-pieces D, also the hind legs E to secure a steady support of the chair. The end of the curved armbrace 0 laps over the horizontal stay-piece D, and connects by a quadrant-a1 rosette with the front leg. The under side of the stay-piece is scalloped up to the bulging under side of the front leg. The upper part of the arm-brace O is provided with a bracket-shaped portion, (3, that supports the upholstered and forwardexteuding arm of the chair. The chair-frame is finished with suitable ornamentation, the essential feature being the intercrossing of the arm-braces and seat-frame, which imparts a characteristic appearance to the chair.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design for a chair-frame, consisting of the back frame A, seat-frame B, curved arm-braces G, and horizontal stay-pieces I), as herein set forth.
2. The design for a chair-frame, consisting of the back frame A, seat-frame B, curved arm-braces 0, horizontal stay-pieces I), and inclined legs E, extending from the staypieces, as herein set forth.
3. The design for a chair-frame, having the horizontal stay-pieces D below the seat-frame, scalloped at the under side, and the inclined front legs E bulging at the under side near the scollops, substantially as shown and described.
4. The design for a chair-frame, having curved arm-braces U crossing the seat-frame B, and formed with the bracket-shaped extensions or supports 0' for the support of the arms, substantially as shown and described.
THEODORE J. PALMER.
