Be it known-that I. JOSIAH Panrnrncn, of
. the city, county, and State of New Yorhhave originated a new and useful Design for a Rocking-C hair; and. that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the sameg'reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
A represents the back posts of the rockingchair. These back posts have the outline of acurve of one radius from their upper to their lower ends, the curve on their front edge or face being convex, and the curve on their rear edge concave. The front edges or faces of these posts are ornamented by moldings (1, extending from their upper ends to the seat B of the chair. The frame of ,t-hisseat is circular, and is also ornamented on its edge by a molding, 12.
From the back posts, A, extending in a horizontal position, are arms 0. These arms are curved, as is shown in the drawing, and the edges of these arms are also ornamented by a molding, c. To these arms, and at right angles to the same and extending to the seat- B, are cylindrically and ornamentally turned posts 1). To the front of the seat B, and beneath the front edge of the same, is a cnrved cleat, d.
Extending from one back post, A, to the other, andat or near their top, is a headpiece, E. This head-piece is in the form of an open frame with'curved sides, and with ornamental posts 6 passing at intervals vertically across theopening of the frame. To the l upper edge of this head-piece or frame are the ornamental posts 6, the entire design of 3 net. The lower part of the back posts, A, near the seat B, is spanned by a bar. E, which is curved to the same radius as the head-piece E. The front legs, F, and back legs, G, are connected to each other by rockers H and by moldings, combined with cylindrical ornamented posts which support the arms, and a which has its edge also ornamented .by a molding, and a head-piece, consisting of an arched open frame, with ornamental posts 0 vertically crossing the open space of the frame and ornamented by balls f on the upper edge of the frame, and with ornamental turned front legs, F, substantially in the manner described.
