T0 ALL WHOM Ip'l MAY CONCER'N z Be it known that I, JOHN NICHOLS, of Gardner, `in the county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Childrens High Chair; and I do hereby` declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of-this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a. side view ot' my improved high chair. v

Figure 2 is a side view of the same, arranged to lform a play-chair, part beingl broken laway to show the Figure 3 is a detail view, showing thev hinge. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. l My invention has for its object to so improve the construction of childrens high chairs that they may be arranged as high chairs for the children to sit at the table, for play-chairs, having-tables in front ofthe chairs to receive the playthings, or `simply as low chairs, and which shall at the same time be easily and quickly adjusted for use in either form; .and it consists in forming' the chair in two parts,.hinged tol each other at their'forward sides, and in the combination of a platform with the lower partof the'chair, as hereinafter more fully described.

A is the seat of the chair, and .B is the foot-board, to' support the childs feet. lhe frame of the chair is divided horizontally into two parts, C and D, at such a distance below the seat A. that the upper part, C, o f the' chair, may be of such a height as to form a convenient low chair when standing upon the floor, as shown in fig. 2. The parts C and D are hinged to each other at their forward sides, so that the lower part, D, may be turned up in front of the upper part, C, as shown in iig. 2.

When adjusted as a high chair, in the position shown in fig. 1, the parts C and 'D are secured to each other by a hook, E, pivoted to one of said parts, and hooking into'an eye attached to the other part, as shown in iig. 1;

The hinges F, by which the forward sides ot the parts 'C and D are hinged to each other, should beso formed that, while securely hinging the said parts together, they may be readily detached when it isdesired to use the upper part, C, as a low chair, without its being connected to the part D.

A convenient way todo this is to make the pivoting-pin] of the hinge long,-and forma hook upon its end,

hooking into an eye attached to the upper part, C, so that when it is vdesired to detach the parts, it may be Adone by unhooking the hooksf, and withdrawing the pins from the eyes ofthe hinges F. To the lower part, D, ofthe chair isv attached a platform, G, in such a position that when the said part D is turned up into the position shown in iig. 2, the said platform may be at a convenient height to hold thechilds playthings. The platform G should have a ange, g', formed around it to prevent the'playthings from falling od'. The front edge of the platform G, or the edge that is towards the child, may be slightly hollowed out, as 'shown in lig. 2, so that it may t better to the childs body. By this construction, the parts being `hinged together, it will be impossible for the child to push the part D away, or to overturn either offsaid parts. v

Having described my invention, I claim as new, .and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The childs high chair constructed as described, having the divided. legs removably hinged together, the

lower part, D, of which, carrying-fthe box G, is adapted to be folded up in front of the chair-seat, as herein described, for the purpose specified. y i
