To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ABRAHAM MORRIS, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Bed- Lounges, of which the following is a specification. 7

My invention has for its object to produce a crib or childs bedstead that can be converted at pleasure into a lounge or sofa; and to such end it consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter explained and illustrated, the accompanying drawings being a part of this specification.

This improved crib is formed of a stationary frame composed of end pieces and an upright back piece, a revolving frame, and having an upholstered surface and a mattress or bed-surface on the opposite sides, either of which is brought uppermost for use by turning the revolving frame, and a side rail or guard that fills the opening between the ends of the stationary frame across the front, and is so attached to the revolving frame that it is brought to the front into position for service when the piece of furniture is converted into a crib, but is at other times folded under the frame out of sight.

In'the drawings referred to, Figure 1 represents in front elevation the crib'set up for use. Fig. 2 is an end view, in cross-section, through the line a as, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a similar view, but with the revolving frame reversed and the parts set for use as a sofa or lounge.

The end pieces A A and fixed back frame A are jointed together to form a stiff frame, in which is pivoted a revolving frame B, composed of the end pieces b and the side pieces b and having one side c suitably upholstered to form a seat for the sofa and the opposite side more plainly covered or finished like a mattress. The ends of this frame have pivots D D, that set into sockets d in the stationary frame, and on these as a center the frame is turned in the direction of the arrow at, Fig. 2, to bring the mattress side into service, or in the contrarydirection, as indicated in Fig. 3, to use the upholstered side.

E is the side rail that fills the opening opposite the stationary back frame. It is attached to the end of the revolving frame by hinges G along that side which comes to the front when the mattress is turned uppermost, and it is made of suitable length to fill the opening across that side between the end pieces A A ofthe stationary frame when in such position. By the catches H the ends of the rail are fastened to the end pieces, as shown in Fig. 1, and when set in that position the rail and the ends and back frame form a standing guard all around the mattress or bed portion, the same as the end boards and sides of a crib. The hooksH also serve to hold the side rail in folded position out of sight against the mattress side when the pivoted frame is reversed, as shown in Fig. 3, for which purpose the eyes h are provided on the end pieces of the frame.

Other forms of fastenin gs could be used in place of the hooks and eyes or staples herein illustrated, and also in place of the bolts K K, which are applied to the revolving frame under the front at the ends to prevent the frame from turning. The simplest form of fastening is shown in both cases.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A childs crib lounge or sofa having a stationary frame composed of uprights A A, that form the arms to the sofa and endboards to the crib, and the upright back frame A that forms the back of the sofa and one side of the crib, the revolving frame B, having an upholstered surface on one side and a mattress surface on the opposite side, and the folding guard-rail E, adapted to fill the opening across the front between the end pieces and to be turned down out of sight in two different adjustments of the revolving frame, as described.

2. In combination with the stationary frame composed of the end piecesA A and the back frame A the revolving seat-frame B, having upholstered and plain or mattress surfaces on opposite sides, as described, and the folding side rail E, permanently attached to the revolving frame, and fastenings by which the rail is held in position for operation, as set forth.
