Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
ANDREW P. FRESHMAN, OF MARISSA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN NURSERY-CHAI RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,491, dated December 25, 1877 application filed March 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW P. FRESHMAN, of Marissa, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Ohilds Chair, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line w w in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 of drawing is a detail view of the guard.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in the combination of astool and a childs arm-chair, the latter being provided with a double seat, a folding foot-rest, and a detachable guard for holding the child in the chair.
In the drawing, A is a stool, in which holes are made for receiving the legs of the chair B. Blocks on, having notches b, are attached to the front and rear round of the chair, and extend below the top of the stool A to receive the bar 0 in their notches.
A hole, d, is made in the bottom of the chair B for nursing purposes, and a cover, 0, is fitted over the seat and hinged at f.
O is a guard for keeping the child in the chair, which consists of the arms g, connected by a bar, 72-, and provided with holes 2', as seen in Fig. 3 of the drawing, that are slotted to receive the studs j, that project from the edges of the chair-bottom, and are flattened at opposite sides, so that when the arms are placed on the said studs and turn downward, so that the lugs k, formed on the arms, strike the chair-bottom, the guard cannot be removed.
A rod, Z, passes through the front legs of the chair, and upon it the foot-rest m is pivoted. A cleat, n, is attached to the under side of the foot-rest, which strikes the legs when the footrest is in a horizontal position.
The advantages of the chair are obvious. It may be readily converted into a low chair and stool, and otherwise fulfills the requirements of a childs chair.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the chair B, having the notched blocks a, and the stool A, having the pivoted bar 0, substantially as shown and described.
2. The slotted arms 9, having lugs k, connected by a bar, h, and havingholes '5, combined with a chairbottom having flattened studs j, as and for the purpose specified.
ANDREW P. FRESHMAN.
