IMPROVEMENT IN SWINGHNG CHAlRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 13%,02L dated October 8, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, MARK H. PEEscoTT, J r., of La Crosse, in the county of La Grosse and State of Wisconsin, have invented an Improved Swinging Chair, of which the following is a specification The drawing is a swinging chair.
My invention has for its object to furnish a swinging chair which shall be simple in construction and convenient and safe in use and it consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
E E are two suspension-cords, to the lower ends of which are attached two suaphooks, F, which are hooked into the rings D. The upper ends of the two cords, E, are securedto a ring, hook, or eye-bolt, G,which is designed to be attached to the ceiling. The cords E are kept at a proper distance from each other by one or more bars or stretchers, H, the ends of which are connected with said suspensioncords E. I is the seat of the chair, to each of the four corners of which are attached the ends of two cords, K. The upper ends of the two cords K, at each end of the seat I, are attached to a ring, M. O is the back of the chair, the lower end of which is secured to the seat I by a set-screw which passes through a slot in the lower part of the said back, so that the back O may be raised and lowered to adjust it to the height ofthe child. To the back O are attached two open stee1spring bands, P, to pass around the body of' the child, to
perspective view of my secure it in place upon the seat I. The bands P should be covered and padded, and their ends are provided with straps and buckles Q, to enable the bands P to be buckled around the body ot' the child. One or both the bands P may be secured to the back O by handscrews passing through holes or a slot in the back 0, so that the bands P may be raised and lowered, according to the height of the child. In this case the back O need not be adjustable. This construction of the back O and arms or bands P adapts it to be attached to any chair or seat for a child. The bands P may have keepers attached to their rear parts for the rear cords K to pass through, to give additional steadiness to the chair.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The back O and arms or bands PQ, constructed and combined substantially as herein shown and described, to ada-pt them to be attached to the seat ot' a childs chair, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the chair I O P Q,
