To all whom, itwbay concern.-

Be it known that I, NELS K. NELSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockland,

vide a chair of this class that will combine a chair, a swing, a cradle, and a baby-carriage; and to this end the novelty consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same figures of reference indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure l is a perspective view of my improved nursery-chair used as a swing. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same used as a Fig. 3 shows the chair adjusted as a hammock-swing, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the same adjusted to form a baby-carriage.

1 1 are the rockers, near the forward ends of which is pivoted a cross-brace 2, from which extends upwardly two pivoted legs 3 3, the upper ends of which are pivoted to a cross-brace 4, on the outer ends of which are pivoted two longitudinal rails 5 5, to which the seat 6 is secured.

7 is a rear cross-brace, its ends 7' passing through the back-rails 8 8, the lower ends of which are pivoted to a cross-brace 9, pivoted to the rockers 1 1. Between said pivoted braces 9 and 2 on the rockers 1 1' is secured a rigid brace 10, which braces the rockers and maintains them in a parallel position at all times and in the various positions to which the chair may be adjusted.

The back-rails 8 8 extend upwardly, and

are curved outwardly to receive a handle 12 for convenience in propelling the chair.

through which the curved ends 16 of the arms 17 project, and the forward ends of said arms are secured to the seat 6 by the posts 18. The rear ends of the longitudinal rails .5 5 are connected by a cross-bar 19, and 20 is a lever hinged to a cross-brace 21 in the back-rails S 8, and its under side is formed with a series of teeth 22, which engage the cross-bar 19 and support the back of the chair in any inclined position to whiclrit may be adjusted.

23 is a similar lever hinged to the crossbrace 21, and its end is formed with a hook 24, which likewise engages the cross-bar 19 and prevents the back of the chair from moving forward when the same is adjusted as a baby-carriage. As the tooth on the lever 20, which is in the same transverse plane as the said hook, prevents any further inclination of the back, and as the hook prevents any forward motion, all the parts are rigidly locked when in use as a carriage.

25 and 26 are depending arms pivoted to A the cross-braces 4 and 7, their lower portions passing through cast-metal guide-brackets 27 27 secured to the rockers 1 1', and on their immediate lower ends are pivoted the carrying-wheels 28, the peripheries of which extend within the curved line of the rockers, so that when the chair is adjusted as a rocker and in operation as such the wheels do not come incontact with the floor; but when the chair is used as a baby-carriage the arms 25 and 26 are forced downward as the seat'is lowered parallel to the rockers. The ends of the arms 25 and 26 extend through the guidebrackets, and the peripheries of the carryingwheels project beyond the rockers, forming a support for the whole, the rockers remaining elevated above the floor.

29 and 30 are screw-eyes secured, respectively, to the front end of the seat 6 and the rear end of the longitudinal rails 5 and 5 and are each provided with a ring 31, into which the snap-hooks 32 on the lower ends of the cords 33 engage. When the device is organcord, so as to support the bars in a horizontal position 011 each side of the chair, as shown.

38 is a detachable table secured in front of the seat by the cords passing through holes 39 in the rear end of the table. These holes register with the corresponding orifices in the forward ends of the side bars, and the proj ecting ends 40 of said bars extend forwardly and form a support upon which the table rests. When not in use as a swing, the cords, table, and side bars may be removed by re leasing the snap-hooks.

The foot-board 451 is secured to the hinged ends 42 42 of the rockers l 1, and by means of the hinges 43 the same may be folded back- Ward.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications maybe made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention Without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s

A chair comprising the rockers 1 1 having the rigid brace 10, the pivoted braces 2 and 9, the former being provided with the pivoted legs 3 3 and the latter with the back rails S 8, the side rails 5 5 secured to the outer ends of the braces 2 and 9, and having their rear ends connected by a cross-bar 19, in combination with the brace 21 secured between the said back rails, and the levers 20 23 hinged to said bar 19, the lever 20 being provided with a series of ratchet-shaped teeth 22, and the lever 23 with a hook 24-, said teeth and hook being adapted to engage the cross-bar 19 to rigidly secure the back of the chair in an inclined position, substantially as shown and described.
