PIN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
resented July 2, 1907.
Application filed May 6, 1907. Serial No. 372,209.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. EGGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grafton, in the county of Walsh, State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to pin cases and holders that are adapted to contain a paper of pins and to maintain the successive rows in position where they can be pulled out of the paper as needed.
The object of this invention is to provide improvements that will enhance the efiiciency and convenience of the class of devices mentioned both with respect to position for use desirable.
The nature of the invention is fully and clearly ascertainable from the device portrayed in the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, in view of Which it will first be described with respect to its construction and mode of use and then be pointed out in the subjoined claim.
Of the said drawingsFigure 1 is a front elevation of a pin case constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing a paper of pins exposed between the front edges of the case and its cover in position for use. Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section thereof. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of a modified embodiment of the invention. Fig. 5 is a transverse section thereof, and Fig. 6 is an elevation of a 'still further modified embodiment of the invention.
Similar numerals of reference designate similar parts or features, as the case may be, Wherever they occur.
In any form of means that may embody my invention there is a jaw adapted to co-operate with an opposing jaw or object to bite upon or clamp the paper at the sides of a row of pins, said jaws having practically rigid surfaces beyond their clamping lines extending in the plane in which it is desired to support the pins. I
In the drawings, having reference first to Figs. land 4, inclusive, there is shown a casing consisting of a box 1 having an inverted box-shaped lid 2, two parts being hingedly connected at 3. The edges 4 of the box and lid are beaded, the beads inclosing a wire, as shown, and the arrangement is such that the edges will meet when the box is closed in contradistinction to over-lapping. The case-is made of a size suflicient to contain a paper of pins somewhat loosely therein. The front edges 4 and 4 constitute practical jaws that are adapted to close upon or clamp the portions 5 5 of the paper between two rows of pins and hold it with necessary firmness when the hook-Clasps 6 at the sides of the case are closed. When the pin-paper is thus engaged by the jaws the row of pins will be maintained in vertical position by the vertical plane of the front of the casing above and below the jaws. If the said surfaces extended in an inclined position it is obvious that the pins would be held in the same position.
With a row of pins supported by the casing the pins may be pulled out asneeded until all in the row are exhausted, when the lid may be released and opened and the next successive row be brought into position and clamped by the jaws as aforesaid, and so on until all of the pins in the paper are used.
In Figs. 4 and 5, I have shown a case in which the base 7 is made solid and composed of wood or metal,
while the top is made of an inverted box form hinged on the base at its rear and acted upon by aspring 8 to close the front edge 4 on the upper front margin of the base 7 to bite upon the paper at the sides of a row of pins and hold the latter in position as before stated.
In Fig. 6, the construction is generally the same as in Figs. 4 and 5, the departure residing in locating the hinged joint at one end of the box and lid as indicated at 3". The-lid is spring closed in the manner previously described, the spring being indicated by dotted lines. The front edges of the base and the lid are utilized as in the foregoing embodiments of the invention. to grip or bite the strip of paper which carries the pins.
The modifications illustrated and described show that the embodiment of the invention may vary somewhat without departing from its general nature or spirit.
What I claim is A pin case and holder comprising jaws adapted to clamp the paper at the sides of a row of pins and hold the same firmly, and material above and below the clamping line extending in practically the same plane to maintain the row of pins in position.
In testimony whereof, I afliix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES E. EGGERS.
