PATENT OFFICE.
KALMAN FRANKLIN, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
PAPER-PAD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 756,013, dated March 29, 1904.
Application filed February 1, 1904. Serial No. 191,405. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, KALMAN FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Pad Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paper-pad holders; and the object thereof is to provide a convenient holder for paper pads such as are used by clerks in stores for recording sales; and a further object is to construct the holder so that the paper pads may be easily and quickly secured in or removed from the holder.
I accomplish my object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the top of the holder, showinga paper pad secured therein, a portion of which is cut away. Fig. 2 is a similar view, but showing the clasp opened. Fig. 3 is a side view of theholder with pad in place, with part in section.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and referring now to the same, 1 is a rectangular case made of sheet metal, and 9 is the supporting member, at the top of which the case 1 is fixed.
2 is a clasp having its rear edge bent at right angles to the plane of the main portion thereof to form a long shoulder 3, which may be toothed along its edge. At the ends of the clasp 2, at
points slightly forward of the shoulder 3, are projecting trunnions 5, which extend through perforated ears 6 in the case 1, and thus hold said clasp so as to turn upon said trunnions. Upon the lower face of the clasp 2 are one or more studs 7 which project sufliciently to enter perforations 10 in the paper pad Swhen the clasp is in closed position, and thereby hold said paper. pad within the case. An ear 4 extends from the top of the clasp 2 and serves as a finger-piece for lifting said clasp.
In using this holder the top end of the pad 8 is insertedin the case 1 beneath the opened clasp 2, and as the said clasp is sprung into normal position the studs 7 enter the perforations 10 in said pad and the shoulder 3 impinges against the face of the pad. The lower edge of said shoulder being slightly below the trunnions tends to hold said clasp in closed position. To remove the pad, it is only neces sary to spring the clasp upward at its top, and thereby. lift the studs from the perforations in the pad, and of course at the same time the shoulder 3 will be moved forward and upward, thus releasing the'pad. It will appear also that the holder may be used to hold a sheet of carbon-paper 11 in place upon the top of the paper pad. This is done by inserting the carbon-paper between the pad and the clasp, and when the latter is pressed into normal position the studs 7 will puncture the paper and hold the same in place.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the class described, a case; a clasp mounted in the case and havinga downturned shoulder adapted to engage the pad when inserted in the case; and one or more studs projecting from the under face of said clasp, and being adapted to engage suitable perforations in said pad.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
KALMAN FRANKLIN.
