The present invention relates to a book holder and protector and more particularly to a device of this character which is especially adapted for use in connection with sales books and the like.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide in combination with a sales book a novelly cons-tructed holder 'and protector therefor.

Another important object of the invention will be found to reside in the novel means in combination with the protector and holder for firmly and removably securing the sales book or pad within the holder.

Other objects of the invention including durability, simplicity of construction and lowcost of manufacture thereof, will become apparent from a study of the following description when considered in connection with the drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the book protector andl holder showing a sales book secured therein,

Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the device illustrated in Figure 1 showing the cover in open position and the manner in which the back portion of the book is securely and removably held in the device,

Figure 3 is -a vertically sectional View of Figure l taken on line 3-3 thereof,

Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form o-f the invention,

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown preferred embodiments of the invention, and referring more particularly to Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, the reference numeral I2 clearly designates the bot- 55 tom portion of the book cover and protector,

(Cl. l281-19) which Vis'of rectangular shape, and bent upwardly at A'one end at right angles thereto defining the fronit end portion vI4 of the holder. A top I6 which includes a substantially rectangular shaped cover plate I8 having one end rbent downwardly at right angles is pivotally mounted to the bottom portion I2 at 20. It will be observed that the free end of 'the -cover I6 terminates short of the upstanding front portion I4 substantially covering and protecting the top of the sales pad. Thus, it will be observed that Vthe protector, 'or holder as previously described forms a substantially box-like vstructure in Vwhich,`the sales pad or book 22 is secured. The sales pad 22 is provided with a substantially 'flexible 'cardboard back 24, as illustrated in Figure 3, the free end of which is slid runder the integral inwardly directed tongues 26 adjacent the pivoted end of the holder. As 'clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 `the back I2 adjacent Ythe vpivoted end is provided with integralinwardly directed tongues 2S which are disposed in spaced relation to the upper side of the back I2 for 'receiving the free end of the back of the book as illustrated in Figure 3. A holder 28 is bent around the back I2 having inwardly directed tongues 30 in spaced relation tothe upper portion of the bottom I2 and is freely slidable 'onthe back. It will thus be observed that the back of the sales pad or book is inserted through the slidable holder and beneath the tongues 26 and upon a forward sliding of the holder 28 the book is firmly secured to the back I2. The size of the holder is such, that the upstanding forward end I4 is in abutment with the forward end -of the sales pad.

Referring now to Figures 4 to 6, inclusive, it will be observed that there is illustrated a further modified form of the invention in which, the b-ack 34 is o-f general rectangular shape and is provided with an upstanding front side 36 which is bent upon itself in substantially oval shape forming an abutment for the forward end of the sales pad. In this form of the invention, as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, the inwardly directed tongues 38 at their outermost ends are bent downwardly as at 39 into contacting relationship with the upper portion of the back 3iA forming an abutment or a stop for the free end of the back of the sales pad. In this form of the invention there is also provided a holder 40 which is slidable on the back and upon a sliding of the holder 4I) in position adjacent the tongues 38, the back of the pad is inserted between the holder 40 and the back and underneath the tongues 38 whereupon a forward sliding of the holder 40 toward the forward end of the sales pad securely holds the pad in position in the holder with the forward end of the pad in abutment with the forward circular end 36 of the back. If so desired, as illustrated in Figure 6, the tongues 44 may as distinguished from being turned downwardly at its free outer end into abutting contact with the upper portion of the back 34 be entirely spaced therefrom permitting of the free slidable engagement of the back of the pad therebetween.

Attention is now directed to Figures 7 to 9, inclusive, wherein, the cover 48 which is pivotally mounted as previously described to the back50 which has an upstanding front end portion 52 is i provided with a sales slip receiving compartment 54. As illustrated in Figure 'l this compartment is formed by bending the sides of the top 48 downwardly and inwardly until the free ends substantially meet as at 56 defining a substantially box-like compartment. 'I'he free end ofthe top 48 is bent downwardly as` at '58 terminating short of the inturnedlbottom portion of the compartment defining an opening'` 60 through which the used vsales slip may be inserted `for holding the same within the compartment. t Ity must be observed in this connection that the length and size of the compartment is` such as to freely and slidably receivethe used sales slips. It will thus be seen, thatrthere is provided,a

Whilefthere are shown for the purpose of illustration several preferred embodiments of the invention it is to be understood that the invention is capable of 'various changes `and:flirtlier lmodifications without departing from-the spirit and scope thereof'and `it is intended therefore, that only-such limitations shall be imposed thereon as arenecessitated by the prior art or by the scope in the claims.A y t What I claim is:` l V l. A sales book holder and protector comprising, a bottom having one end turned upwardly, a coverpivoted to the. other-end of said bottom,

tongues secured to the sides of said bottom and being bent inwardly in spaced relationship to the upper side of said bottom for receiving the free end of the back of a sales pad, and a rectangular shaped holder longitudinally slidable of said bottom through which the back of the sales book is inserted for cooperation with the bottom for securing said sales book to the bottom thereof.

2. A sales book holder and protector comprising a bottom having one end turned upwardly at right angles thereto, a cover having `one end turned downwardly and pivoted to the other end of said bottom, tongues secured to the sides of said bottom adjacent the pivoted end and being bent inwardly in spaced relationship to the upper side of said bottom for receiving the free end of the back `of a sales book, and a rectangular shaped keeper slidable longitudinally of said bottom through which the back of the sales book is inserted for cooperation with the bottom of the holder for securing said sales book-to the bottom thereof. o

A sales book` holder and protector comprising a bottom having `one end turnedupwardly at a right angle thereto, a cover having one end turned downwardly and pivotally connected to the other end of the bottom, said bottom having tongues integral with the sides and bent inwardly in spaced relationship to the top portion of said bottom adjacent the pivoted end thereof for slidably receiving the` free endof` a back of `a sales book, the outermost sides ofsaid tongues being bent downwardly in contacting relationship with the upper portion ofthe bottom `for defining an abutment forthe free end of the back of the sales book, and a keeper longitudinallyslidable of the bottom through which the back ofta salesfbook is inserted for securing the upperportion. of the back of a sales book adjacent the bottom.
