In a match book including a card of matches each projecting and separable from a common base and a cover folded about the head ends of the matches to form a back portion and a front closure flap each extending to the base, a strip of striking material placed on and extending transversely of said flap inwardly of the free edge thereof, and a strip of material encircling said base and the free end of said back portion and secured thereto to form, in co-operation with said base, a pocket for receiving the free end of said flap whereby said encircling strip will restrain the free end of said flap from lateral movement relative to said base when a match is drawn along said strip of striking material.

In a match book including a card of matches each projecting and separable from a common base and a cover folded about the head ends of the matches to form a back portion and a front closure flap each extending to the base, a. strip of striking material placed on and extending transversely of said flap inwardly of the free edge thereof, a strip of material encircling said base and the free end of said back portion, and an element piercing said encircling strip, said back portion and said base and arranged to secure the same to each other whereby said encircling strip forms, in co-operation with said base, a pocket wherein the free end of said flap may be received and will be restrained from lateral movement relative to said base when a match is drawn along'said strip of striking material.

In a match book including a card of matches each projecting and separable from a common base and a cover folded about the head ends of the matches to form a back portion and a front closure flap each extending to the base, a strip of striking material placed on and extending transversely of said flap inwardly of the free edge thereof, a strip of material encircling said base and the free end of said back portion and having free ends adjacent each other at the rear side of said back portion, and means piercing the front part of said encircling strip, said base, said back portion and the free ends of said encircling strip and arranged to secure all of the same to each -other whereby the front portion of said encircling strip co-operates with said base to form a pocket therebetween wherein the free end of said flap may be received and will be restrained from lateral movement relative to said base when a match is drawn along said strip of striking material.

In a match book including a card of matches each projecting and separable from a common base and a cover folded about the head ends of the matches to form a back portion and a front closure flap each extending to the base, a strip of striking material placed on and extending transversely of said flap inwardly of the free edge thereof, a strip of material encircling said base and the free end of said back portion and having free ends disposed adjacent each other at the rear side of said back portion, and a staple having two legs piercing the respective free ends of said encirling strip, said back portion, said base and the front part of encircling strip and bent to overlie said front part whereby said front part co-operates with said base to form a pocket therebetween for receiving the free end of said flap and retaining the same against lateral movement thereof relative to said base when a match is drawn along said strip of striking material.

In a match book including a card of matches each projecting and separable from a common base and a cover folded about the head ends of the matches to form a back portion and a front closure flap each extending to the base, a strip of striking material placed on and extending transversely of said flap inwardly of the free edge thereof, and a strip of material extending across the front side of said base and rearwardly at the side edges thereof and being secured to said base to form in conjunction therewith a pocket for receiving the free end of said flap and retaining the same against appreciable lateral movement thereof relative to said base when a match is drawn along said strip of striking material.
