PERFORATOR.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.27. 1920.

INVENTOR Patented Nov, l i, 19220 PERFORATOR.
Application filed September 27, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HENRY MoUN'r,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Brownwood, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Perforators, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a check protector.
My present invention has reference to a which may be readily attached to a pencil, pen or like writing instrument designed to engage with a check to perforate the same.
A further object is the production of a check perforator that comprises a body having a roughened surface and clips on the ends thereof so that the body may be readily attached to a writing implement, said body having hingedly connected thereto a spring influenced cap member that normally covers the said body, so that the roughened surface of the body will be wholly concealed,
and said cap member having at one of its ends a handle to permit of the same to be swung away from the body to permit of a check to be laced between the body and the cap and when released to force the cap against the body and perforate the check.
Vith the foregoing in mind, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and operative assemblage of parts, such is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and which form part of this speci- V fication.
In the drawings Figure l is an elevation illustrating the improvement arranged on a writing implement.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional View approximately on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional View approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 9 ad- Figure 2 can be formed in any metal body of pen or pencil.
In the drawings, I have illustrated my improvement attached to an ordinary writing pencil which is indicated by the numeral 1. The improvement constitutes a body Serial No. 413,240.
which is of a suitable length and which is concavo-convex in cross section. The body is broadly indicated by the numeral 2 and has its outer surface provided with longitudinal lines of outstanding prongs3 whereby the outer surface of the said body is provided with a roughened surface. Adjacent to the ends, the body is formed with spring clips 4 and 5 respectively, and the said body, from the clip 5 is provided with an extension 6 that is smooth and which is in the nature of a plate disposed centrally with respect to the body. Arising from the body in a line with the side members of the clip 5 are ears 7 to which are pivoted depending ears 8 formed on a plate 9 that is extended from the inner end of the cross sectional concavo-convex cap member 10 which is designed to be arranged over and to cover the roughened body 1, The inner surface of the cap 10 may have depressions 11 therein to receive the roughened surface or prongs 3 of the body 1. The plate 9 projects a considerable distance beyond its pivotal connection with the body and is bent downwardly, as at 12 and extended, as at 13 to provide a handle portion. Between the plate or extension (3 and the plate 9 there is a helical spring la which exerting a tension between the body and capforces the cap over the body.
In operation, the pressure is exerted upon the handle 9 to swing the cap away from the body. A check to be perforated is placed between the cap and body. The pressure on the handle 13 is released, permitting the spring 14: to swing the cap over the body. If the spring is not of a sufficient strength to cause the proper perforations to be made in the check by the cap engaging the body, a slight pressure may be made on the cap. The check is released by again exerting a pressure on the handle 13.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim, is
A check perforator adapted to be removably supported on a writing implement, in cluding a body which is concave-convex in cross section and which has spring clips depending from its edges at and adjacent 1 to the respective ends thereof, said body having its outer face provided With series of projecting prongs, a cap member of a length approximately equaling that and of 5 a cross sectional contour corresponding with that of the body pivotally supported on the body, spring means between the body and cap for holding the cap over the body, said cap having series of depressions designed to receive therein the prongs when pressure is exerted on the cap to swing the same against the body.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
' JOHN HENRY MOUNT.
