UNITED STATES PATENT ore-non.
'HARRY L. GARO'NER, OF CRANSTON, AND WALTER L. CHASE, OF EAST PROVIDENCE,
RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO TAFT MACHINE COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE. RHODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
TAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 18, 1913, Application filed August 15, 1910. Serial No. 577,219.
pointed pin 7 extending beyond the free end thereof: A spring 8 is mounted in thehinge joint 9 and tends to normally hold the ex- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Hxnnv L. Ganoxnn, ot' the city of Cranston, county of lrovldence, and State of Rhode Island, and Wxntension (5 in Tl'llt L. Cn'asn. of East Providence. county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful improvements in 'lag-l'lolders; and we do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof. The invention relates to a novel form of tag-holder which is specially designed and adapted for use on rugs, (ffllpttS-tll'ltl the like.
It has for its ol,)ject to provide a dagholder which can be easily and quickly applied to a rug or similar article and having means whereby a" tag may be removably mounted therein.
To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed. In describing the invention in detail rot"- erence will be made to the :n-eompanying drawings in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view of the front of our novel tag holder sl'iowing a tag in position therein. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the back of the same. Fig. 31s an edge view. Fig.
4 is asimilar view showing the manner of applying the tag-holder. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view on line-:r-:r, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, '1. re 'n'esents the body portion oi the tag-holder ,which is preferably constructed of metal, and may be of any desired form. -\s shown the body portion 1 is rectangular and the sides 2 and the free end 3 are turned over, and inward substantially parallel with the front of said body portion to form a pocket for remov ably holding a tag 4, asshown in Figs. '1 and 5. The free end 3 is provided with a prong or pointed pin 5 which extends beyond said end.
Hinged upon the back of the body portion 1 adjacent its opposite end 3 is an extension 6 which is provided with a prong or alinement with the back of the body portion 1.
In using the device the body 1 is grasped by the hand and the prong T is inserted into the rug 10, the end of the extension acting as a stop. The body 1 is then moved against the rug and pushed upward slightly, thereby causing the body l and extension 6 to assume the positlon shown in Fig. 4. The
prong 5 is now inserted in the rug 10 and the body portion released. The spring 8 will now cause the body 1 and extension (5 to move into alinement against the rug. as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. 1L will be understood that the tag t may be inserted in the pocket formed by the turned over sides 2 and end 3 either before or after the device is attached to the rug.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a body portion provided on one side, with means for holding a tag, 0 prong at one end, and an extension hinged to the opposite end of said. body portion and provided at its free end with a prong. and means for normally holding said hinged extension in alinement with said body portion.
2. An article of the character described comprising a rectangular body portion having the sides and one end turned over and inward substantially parallel with the front of said body portion, a prong secured to the back at the turned over end, an extension hinge jointed upon said back adjacent the opposite end and provided with :1 prong, and a s 'n'ing mounted in the hinged joint and adapted to normally hold Said hinged
