UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SEBER'J. U. BARRETT, OIE MEDINA, NEW YORK.
TOOL-HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SEBERT C. BARRETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Medina, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tool hangers and one which is particularly adapted for attachment to a garment.
The invention has for an object to provide an improved form of hanger which may be attached to the apron or overalls of a workman for retaining a hammer, or similar tool which may be easily and quickly inserted and carried therein without danger of its being accidentally displaced.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device carrying a hammer; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the hanger; Fig. 3 is a plan of the hanger; Fig. 4 is a side elevation thereof; and Fig. 5 is a face plan of the blank.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the "drawings.
The hanger is preferably formed from a single blank of any desired material, such as metal, and comprises a body portion 1 which may be raised as shown at 2, Fig. 4, for a purpose later described. The body 1 has supporting flanges 3 at opposite sides thereof, the upper edges 1 of said flanges being adapted to contact with the head of a hammer. At the outer portion of either edge Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 27, 1913.
Serial No. 751,070.
4: and extending vertically upward therefrom is a retaining lug 5 which prevents lateral movement of the hammer upon the supporting face of the flange 3. Such movement of the hammer is also prevented by the spring clip 6 attached to the face of the body portion 1 and disposed between the flanges 8 thereof.
By raising the intermediate portion 7 of the body 1 out of the same vertical plane with its ends 8, more play is permitted between the retaining lugs 5 and the adjacent portions of the body so as to accommodate hammers having heads of different sizes.
The invention presents a simple and efficient hanger for hammers and similar tools which may be attached to a garment so as to retain such tool in convenient position for use without danger of accidental dis placement and loss thereof.
What I claim is:
A tool hanger comprising a body having flanges extending at right angles thereto at opposite sides thereof forming a support for the head of a tool the forward upper edges of said flanges being extended upwardly to form lugs to prevent lateral movement of said tool, and a curved spring retaining clip disposed upon the face of said body intermediate the flanges thereof having the side portions thereof substantially parallel with said wings.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SEBERT G. BARRETT.
