Description

PATENTED OCT. 3, 1905.
R. PERRIS-. BILL HOLDER.
APPLIOATION FILED JULY14,1904.
wi Av w h m B ATTORNEYS ROBERT FERRIS, OF MONMOUTH, ILLINOIS.
BILL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1905.
Application filed July 14,190fL. Serial No. 216,525.
T0 (11 whom it ntcty concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT FnRRIs, a citizen of Monmouth, in the county of WVarren or by collectors, its object being to provide a device which shall be simple, cheap, and efficient.
To these ends my invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a front view showing a double clamp. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of the clamp.
In carrying out my invention I use a box or receiver A of suitable length and width of any desired material, said box being open at its upper end. The back A of the box or receiver extends a suitable distance above the top opening of the box and has a Wire or rod A across the top edge, said wire serving to strengthen the back A as well as form a pivotal point for a clip or clamp. Said clip B is formed of a strip of metal bent to form the horizontal straight portion B and the downwardly-projecting portion B which is curled at its lower end and is designed to bear against the back A. The rear end 7) of the horizontal portion is bent around the wire A and forms a pivot or hinge for the clip. The horizontal portion of the clip has a slot therein, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, said slot 6 being formed by cutting out on three sides the tongue 6 and then bending said tongue downwardly at about a right angle to the said horizontal portion of the clip. The free end of the tongue is out out in such shape as to form a notch F, the purpose of which will hereinafter be explained.
To the face of the extended back A is secured at its lower end a spring. wire or rod 0, its upper end extending upwardly through the slot in the clip bearing against the downwardly-bent tongue, thus locking the clip B against the extended back of the box. The extreme upper end of the spring-wire is bent or provided with a head 0, which prevents the clip from being thrown entirely over by catching on the tongue 6 as shown in Fig. 4. Said spring-wire rests in the notch b and is prevented thereby from slipping to either side. The spring-rod C, bearing against the edge of 6 forms a lock for the clip in its raised position.
As shown in Fig. 3, I may use two clips or clamps and connect them by a cross-bar. This form will be found desirable Where very long sheets are used or Where the bills are laid on edge.
Any suitable arrangement of index-letters for separating the bills, &c., may be used. The bill-holders may be made any size'desired, so as to hold various sizes of bills whether they be placed on long or short ends, and, if desired, more than one clip or clamp may be used on a single holder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for bills, &c., consisting of an open-top receptacle, an upward extension at its back, a cross rod or wire at the upper edge of said extension around which said extension is bent a bent plate pivoted to said rod at the upper end of said extension, a tongue projecting from said bent plate, in front of the pivotal point, a spring rod or wire secured to the back extension and adapted to bear against the tongue to lock the bent plate in its raised or lowered position, and a button or hook at the upper end of the spring rod or Wire to limit the upward movement of the tongue.
2. A holder for bills, &c., consisting of an open-top receptacle having its rear wall projecting upwardly to form an extension, an angular plate pivoted at one end to the upper end of the extension-back, a tongue struck out and bent therefrom, a spring rod or wire se cured at its lower end to the extension-back and adapted to bear against the tongue and hold the angular plate in its raised or lowered position, and a projecting head at the upper end of the rod or wire to limit the upward movement of the struck-out tongue.
3. A holder for bills, 620., consisting of an open-top receptacle, having its rear wall projecting upwardly to form an extension, 9. spring-clip pivoted to the upper end of said extension, said clip comprising an angular plate and a tongue struck out therefrom, the free end of said tongue being notched or out out, a spring rod or wire secured at its lower end to the back extension and adapted to bear tongue to prevent lateral displacement of the against the tongue and hold the angular-plate rod. or Wire.
in its raised or lowered position, and a pro- "w jecting head at the upper end of said rod or ROBERT FLRRlb' Wire to limit the upward movement of the Witnesses:
