(Cl. 2-140) 'I'he detachable shirt collars at present on the market have well-known draWbacks. In particular, their attachment to the shirt is made very imperfect owing to the fact that they are held on to the latter by means of two collar studs fitting into button holes. If the collar does not correspond accurately to the neck opening of the shirt and round the neck, When the tie is knotted, that part of the collar which normally comes over the shirt, rides up and presses on the neck, thus making the collar fit very badly on the shirt; moreover, the part of the neck of the shirt which is contiguous to the collar is in direct contact with the skin and owing to this, is very soon soiled.

The present invention deals with an improved collarl Which overcomes these drawbacks by appearing to be a collar attached to the shirt, whereas it is actually detachable.

rThis collar is essentially characterized by the fact that it overlaps the shirt. The inside part of the collar which comes into contact with the skin, has inside fixing means, for instance, snap fasteners, which are fixed by their complementary part round the internal circumference of the neck of the shirt; the fixing means fitted to both parts, on a strip of unshrinkable material whose middle portion is strengthened so as to give great solidity to the point Where said means are attached. The collar can be buttoned, either by ordinary means, or by a device consisting of snap fasteners or other means of maintaining it in a correct position if it is desired to be opened. For this purpose, the ends of the inside part of the collar are suitably strengthened and are inserted in gussets provided at the corresponding ends of the shirt neck.

Other advantages and peculiarities of the invention will become apparent from the following description of one form of embodiment thereof, given as an example, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the assembly of collar and shirt.

Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View.

Figs. 3, 4 and 5 show two possible forms of embodiment of a device adapted to secure the ends of the collar and shirt and to fasten the collar.

Fig. 6 is a front perspective view of the shirt collar embodied in the present invention.

In Fig. 1, the collar I is fixed to the shirt 2 and the overlapping of both sides of the neck-band of the shirt is clearly shown.

A cut-away portion shows the strip of material 3, which is preferably unshrinkable, whose strengthened middle-part 3a constitutes a solid base for the female parts of the snap fasteners 4 arranged all round the neck-band of the shirt on its inside surface I, the male parts being secured on the inner surface o-f an inner element Ia of the collar I, the inner element Ia adapted to be positioned in contact with the inner surface of the neckband of the shirt as illustrated in Fig. 6.

rIhe tie being slipped between the collar I and the shirt 2, thus tightens the collar against the neck, the part I a of the collar coming directly into contact with the skin and preventing any soiling of the neck-band of the shirt 2.

The collar can be fastened by ordinary means or by a means according to the invention, which permits the collar to be Worn open whilst avoiding the drawbacks of the collars worn up till now.

At one of the ends of the collar I a, according to Fig. 3, there is fixed the male part of a snap fastener 5 whose lengthened end 6 has a peripheral groove 1. The corresponding part of the shirt 2 can be xed on 6, thanks to the groove 1, by means of the female part 8 of the snap fastener, which is perforated right through, thus permitting a portion of 6 to pass through, and which serves as a male portion for securing the unit thus formed to the corresponding unit constituted by the other ends of the collar Ia and of the neck-band 2.

The other end of the collar can be arranged as shown in Fig. 4; the shirt is tted with the female part 9 of an ordinary snap fastener, and the collar has a fastener part ID which acts as the male part on the side facing part 9, and as the female part on the other side, so that on each side the collar and shirt are secured to each other, the collar being fastened by the male part 6 and the female part of the fastener I0.

To prevent the ends Ib and 2b of the parts Ia and 2 (see Fig. 5) from gaping apart when the collar is worn open, the end I b of the collar is made slightly stiff, for example by starching so as to slip inside the end of the neck-band of the shirt 2, which comprises an extension 2b folded back on itself and sewn in such a manner as to constitute a gusset.

Generally, the above description is only given in an explanatory and non-restrictive manner and the device is capable of being modied in numerous Ways in conformity with its spirit, without departing from the scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

In a removable shirt collar in combination with a shirt having a neck band, an outer element forming the outer surface of said collar, an inner element formed integral with said outer element and forming the inner surface of said collar, a strip secured to the inside surface of said inner element, said strip having a reinforced central portion secured thereto, a second strip secured to the inside surface of said shirt neck band, said second strip having a reinforced central portion secured thereto, a plurality of snap fastener members secured to the reinforced portion of said first strip, a plurality of complementary snap fastener elements secured to the reinforced portion of said second strip and engaging said fastener members secured to said first strip, a snap fastener for closing said collar formed with an elongated part and secured to said inner element adjacent an end thereof, a female snap fastener secured to said neck band adjacent an end thereof having an opening formed therein for receiving said elongated part, said elongated part extending through said female snap fastener and projecting outwardly therefrom when said collar is in the closed position, and a closing fastener secured to said inner element adjacent the other end thereof, said closing fastener having a female part and a male part, said male part projecting into a complementary female fastener secured to said neck band adjacent the other end thereof, and said female part receiving said elongated part therein, thereby providing means for closing said collar on said neck band.
