Abstract
A tee shirt, polo type shirt and/or garment of simple design is quickly, easily and selectively changed into an innovative, versatile garment by alternating, reversing and/or interchanging extensions that consist of but not limited to cuffs, collars and layers that attaches by various means to necklines, tubular sleeves, waist or waistlines changing a garment of simple design into an innovative garment that is more versatile, more flexible, more adaptable and more purposeful, for a variety of situations, activities and/or requirements.

- This application claims benefits of my Provisional Application No. 61/067,978 filed Mar. 4, 2008, entitled Versatile Tees with Extensions.

- 1. Field of the invention
- This invention relates to innovative garments, more particularly to a versatile garment with an innovative means and method of layering.
- Priority is hereby claimed to Provisional Patent Application No. 61/067,978, filed Mar. 4, 2008 for Versatile Tees with Extensions.
- Layering clothes has been a fashionable trend for years. Layering allows for flexible clothing to match the needs of each situation. With layering different and/or multiple garments are combined in layers to create a variety of outfits.
- Versatile Tees with Extensions are an innovative means to permit and/or induce a layering effect without having to wear multiple or different garment. They are tee shirts and polo type shirts of simple design without a collar or cuff, manufactured of a variety of fabrics and colors with three extensions. The extensions are cuffs, collars and layers manufactured of various fabrics, colors, and styles that are attachable, reversible and interchangeable with other garments. The extensions can be alternated or interchanged to accommodate different occasions, events, situations or requirements.
- Versatile Tees with Extensions are an innovative versatile garment that not only matches the needs of each situation but allows creativity while enhancing appearance, versatility, flexibility, adaptability and providing the layered effect without having to combine multiple garments. The extensions can quickly and easily be attached, removed, reversed, alternated or interchanged with other garments of simple design. The wearer will not have to shed layers according to changes in temperature.
- As used herein, the term “simple design” refers to any article of clothing that has a simple neckline without a collar, that is sleeveless or that has a long or short tubular sleeve without a cuff, or that has a hemline and/or a rim including but in no way of limitation to, tee shirts, polo shirts, tank tops, dresses, skirts, jackets, vest, hoodie's, pants, short's, sweaters, sweatshirts, gowns, coats, tube tops and halter tops.
- As used herein, the term “simple neckline” refers to necklines including but not limited to circular shape, oval shape, u-shape, heart shape, v-neck, square shape or asymmetrical.
- The economy plays an important role in how we spend our finances. More people are budgeting and looking for ways to save money now than ever before.
- The clothes we purchase are often dictated by our income, our job, dress codes, schools, uniform regulations, social events, social status, situations and circumstances.
- Versatile Tees with Extensions provides a cost-effective means to quickly, easily, and selectively induce layering and/or permit more versatility, flexibility, adaptability and creativity particularly to, but not by way of limitation to, polo type shirts, tee shirts and/or any single garment of simple design.
- By alternating reversible, interchangeable, extensions consisting of but by no way of limitation to cuffs, collars and layers manufactured of a variety of fabrics, a variety of colors, a variety of styles and a variety of configurations that attaches by a variety of methods to necklines, sleeves, rims, and waistlines, garment is more versatile, more purposeful, more functional and more adaptable for a variety of activities, situations and/or requirements, for any age or gender.
- 2. Discussion
- Garments with articles of clothing that are detachable, reversible and/or interchangeable have long been known and widely used for purposes such as laundering or to slightly alter the appearance or mode of use as described in the following U.S. patents and International publication:

- 1. U.S. Pat. No. 5,146,626, Rosado (1992) Interchangeable, decorative, front piece for a garment, discloses a means and a method to alter the appearance of a single garment by using a single front piece.
- 2. U.S. Pat. No. 1,314,325, Heeren (1919) A replaceable cuff which could only be used with a specific shirt.
- 3. U.S. Pat. No. 5,794,267, Wallace (1998) Interactive articles of apparel with removable and interchangeable panels for the purpose of concealing, exposing, removing, changing, and bearing indicia.
- 4. U.S. Pat. No. 1,413,897, Calco (1922) A detachable cuff having an unusual appearance for a particular shirt.
- 5. U.S. Pat. No. 6,430,747, Lee (2002) A detachable cuff to be used with a particular shirt to alter the appearance is disclosed.
- 6. U.S. Pat. No. 5,416,928, Koenig (1995) A versatile garment attachment and article of clothing, which consists of a decorative flexible panel is disclosed.
- 7. WO/2005/009153, Hidaka (2005) An interchangeable cuff and collar of various patterns, shapes and colors for men and women shirts, to improve visual images without losing the traditional aspects and to allow flexibility and durability is disclosed.
- 8. U.S. Pat. No. 6,996,847, Anderson (2006) Versatile garment relates to a multifunctional, garment which may be worn in a variety of modes to accommodate a wide range of atmospheric conditions and activities.
- Today's generation is constantly seeking for faster and easier ways of doing things to keep up with the fast pace demand imposed on today's society. This generation is being heavily influenced and impacted by innovation. This invention incorporates innovation into the fashion industry.
- There are several garments with articles of clothing that are either attachable, detachable, reversible or interchangeable to alter the mode, the appearance or the purpose but there appears to be no prior art of a garment and/or article of clothing that provides an innovative means to alter appearance and purpose and that offers more adaptability, more flexibility, more creativity and versatility by alternating, reversing and/or interchanging extensions manufactured of a variety of styles, of a variety colors, of a variety fabrics and configurations consisting of cuffs, collars and layers that attach by various methods to tee shirts and polo type shirts of simple design and that can also be interchanged with other single garments of simple design.
- Today's economy creates a need and a desire for a single garment that offers more versatility and more flexibility and that can be readily adaptable for multiple purposes and/or requirements, such as company dress codes, school or uniform regulations, social or business events, casual or evening wear.
- Clothing is a basic physiological necessity that we all need. Today's economy dictates when and how we spend our money. The value of the dollar is on the decline. We are in a time of recession. - The present invention discloses an innovative versatile garment that provides an innovative means for layering, more versatility, more purpose, more function, more flexibility, more durability, more creativity and more adaptability to a tee shirt, polo type shirt and/or any single garment of simple design. It provides a means whereby layering, versatility, appearance and function can quickly, easily and selectively be induced and/or altered. It requires less storage space in closets and/or suitcases. The interchangeable extensions can be cleaned independent of the entire garment, which saves on cleaning and laundry expenses.
- Versatile Tees with Extensions offers the sensible solution for a more cost-effective versatile wardrobe. This invention fits right into the mainstream of the fashion industry and can be used by all ages and genders.
- Versatile Tees with Extensions is a cost-effective means to save consumer's time and money while also providing a more creative, versatile, flexible, adaptable and fashionable wardrobe that fits into the fast pace society of today, allowing an individual to change from uniform to business to casual to a more dressier attire in a matter of minutes by simply adding, removing, reversing, interchanging and/or alternating the extensions.

FIG. 5 illustrates two front views of a long sleeve polo and/or tee shirt type garment with various layers extending below hemline or rim of garment. -
FIG. 6 illustrates a single front view of a long sleeve polo and/or tee shirt type garment of simple design with three embodiments of the present invention. - While the present invention is discussed in detail, it should be appreciated that the present invention provides many innovative options. Versatile Tees with Extensions is configured to accommodate all ages and genders.
- The embodiments includes but by no way of limitation to, cuffs, collars and layers manufactured of a variety of fabrics, a variety of styles, a variety of colors and a variety of configurations.
- Most articles of clothing that are detachable, reversible or interchangeable are specifically designed for that individual garment. This invention provides an innovative means for layering and a more cost-effective versatile wardrobe.
Claims (5)
1. Versatile Tees with Extensions, an innovative versatile garment comprising: tee shirt and/or polo type shirts of simple design, manufactured of a variety of fabrics and colors, with three reversible, interchangeable extensions consisting of, but by no way of limitation to cuffs, collars and layers that are manufactured of a variety of fabrics, styles, colors and configurations and attaches by a variety of fasteners particularly to, but by no way of limitation to, necklines, sleeves and waistlines, providing an innovative means to quickly, easily, and selectively allow more creativity, enhance appearance, versatility and flexibility in any single garment of simple design.
2. The claim recited in claim 1 wherein said extension consists of a reversible, interchangeable cuff that is manufactured of a variety of fabrics, colors, styles, and configurations, and attaches to a short or long tubular sleeve by a variety of fasteners including but not limited to Velcro, zippers, buttons, loops, snaps, hooks, adhesives, ties, clamps, or a combination thereof.
3. The claim recited in 1 wherein said extension consists of a reversible, interchangeable collar that is manufactured of a variety of fabrics, colors, styles, and configurations and attaches by a variety of fasteners that includes but not limited to Velcro, buttons, snaps, adhesives, clamps, hooks or a combination thereof, to necklines that include but not limited to circular shape, oval shape, u-shape, heart shape, v-neck, square shape or asymmetrical.
4. The claim recited in claim 1 wherein said extension includes but in no way of limitation to a layer consisting of a tubular configuration with a variety of borders that attaches at waistline or to waistline and is held in place by elastic and/or a variety of fasteners. The tubular configuration is manufactured of a variety of fabrics and colors and is cut to extend a distance below the hem or rim of garment to induce a layered effect.
5. The claim recited in claim 1 wherein said extension includes but in no way of limitation to a layer consisting of a front and rear flap that attaches at waistline and is held in place by a variety of fasteners. The rear and front flap is manufactured of various configurations, fabrics and colors. The flaps are joined together by a line stitching and cut to extend a distance below the rim or hemline to induce a layered effect.
