Description

1951 E. SACCHITELLA 2,569,693
SHIRT EMBODYING A DETACHABLE COLLAR CONSTRUCTION INVENTOR. [aw/V azawzzuz Filed Aug. 17, 1950 Patented Oct. 2, 1 951 SHIRTEMBODYING A DETACHABLE COLLAR CONSTRUCTION Eugene Sacchitella, New York, N. Y.
Application August 17, 1950, Serial No. 179,946
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to shirts having detachable collars.
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a shirt provided with a detachable collar and embodying cooperating fastening means on the neck band of the shirt and the collar and which fastening means are so disposed that same are Wholly concealed between the neck band and the outer flap portion of the collar, and wherein the neck band projects above the fastening means for protecting the neck of a wearer.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a construction whereby collars of different colors may be interchangeably connected to shirts and by the provision of slide fastener connecting means eliminate the possibility of shrinkage of the shirt and to thereby insure a good fit.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a garment with detachable collars which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts or pieces, of pleasing appearance, adequate protection for the skin of the wearer, requires no additional protecting covers and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the garment with one of the cuffs and the collar partly detached.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one style of collar.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of another style of collar.
Fig. 4 is an elevational view of one style of cuff flattened and removed from the garment, this cuff being connected by the use of a button and button hole.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of another style of cuif where there is provided two button holes into which a cuif link can extend.
Referring now to the figures, Ill represents a shirt having sleeves II and 12. The shirt also has a neck band I3. The front of the shirt is connected together in the usual manner by buttons I4 extending upwardly over the front of the shirt. According to the present invention, a fastener element is located on the upstanding neck band l3 removed from the upper edge thereof so that there is no possibility of the fastener teeth engaging the neck of the wearer of the shirt. By so locating the slide fastener strip IS on the exterior of the neck band l3, a connection of a collar IS with its slide fastener I! on the inner portion of the collar 16 can be effected readily with the slide l8. Automatically, protection is given without the need of separate protecting layers which might have to be extended over the teeth. Since the teeth 15 are below the upper edge of the neck band 13 they are on the exterior and removed from contact with the neck of the wearer. The neck band I3 will be elevated onto the inner side of the collar and will automatically protect the neck of the wearer from the slide fastener elements. The collar 18 can have any styling with long points Is and 2B. The collar is secured together by a button 2| which enters button hole 22 of the opposite end of the collar. The lower edge of the inner band portion of the collar has the slide fastener teeth l1.
By an easy movement of the slide l8, the collar can be removed and replaced by a collar such as shown in Fig. 3 of a different style, but which is constructed generally the same. The style is different by virtue of the points 23 and 24 which are blunt.
On each of the sleeves II and l2 a slide fastener element 25 is disposed slightly above the bottom edge 26 of the sleeve. A cuff 28 has a slide fastener element 29 on its upper edge and can be connected by a slide fastener 25. The portion of the sleeve which extends below the fastener will give protection to the skin of the wearer. The end 28 is of a type as shown in Fig. 4 which has a button 3|] and a button hole 3|. If desired, a cuff 32, as shown in Fig. 5, where there are two button holes 33 and a cuff link can be used with the same. This cuff 32 also has a slide fastener element 29.
It will be apparent that there has been provided a simple arrangement where by elevating the slide fastener element from the edge of the cuff of a sleeve, protection is given by the sleeve from the wearer of the fastener elements upon the skin of the wearer. By locating the fastener l5 downwardly of the upper edge of the neck band [3, the fastener element will lie below the upper edge of the neck band I3 in such a manner as to automatically give protection to the neck of the wearer.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what i claimed is:
A shirt comprising a. body portion and a single neck band secured to the body portion and extending about a neck opening therein, a slide fastener element secured about the outside of the neck band below the upper edge thereof, a. collar having an inner band portion and" an outer flap portion'and a slide fastener element connected to the lower edge of the band portion and engageable with the slide fastener element on the neck band, said slide fastener elements 1ying on the exterior of the neck band and being protected thereby against engagement with the neck of the wearer, and said slide fastener elements being concealed by the outer flap portion of the collar only.
