Claims.

This invention generally to garments. More particularly, this invention relates to the type-of garment which is adapted to have detachably secured thereto a cap or-hood member.

One of the objects of my invention is to provide a garment of the character described having improved means for 'detachably securing a cap or hood thereto and in which the said securing means is so disposed as to be adapted to be entirely concealed from view when the garment is worn without the cap or hood.

Another object of my invention is to provide a highly improved garment construction of the character described adapted to have a cap or hood detachably secured thereto by slide fastener .means or the like, in which the skinof the wearer is at all'timesprotectedfrom direct contact-with .the fastener elements.

Still another object of .my invention is to provide a novel garment construction of the charfied in the construction hereinafter described,

and of which the scope of application-will be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to thedrawings, there is disclosed in Figs. 1 to 5 one form of my inven tion comprising a garment 20 which may take the form of a hunting jacket, sportjacket, windbreaker, blouse, -or any other article of wearing apparel having a turned-down or foldabletype 0f collar 2| to which there isadapted to be detach- .ably secured a suitable head covering such as a hood 22, asshown.

By my invention I have providedan improved construction and arrangementfor detachably securing the hood .22 to the garmentll) in such manner whereby the skin of the wearer will at all times be protected from direct contact with any part of the fastening mechanism when the hood is in effective attached position, as shown in Fig. 1, and also when the garment is .worn without thehood, as shown in Fig. 3.

To this end I provide a tape 23 carrying a row of hookless fastener elements 24, the said tape being attached adjacent the bottom edge of the hood 22 so that the fastener elements 24 will project slightly below the said bottom edge, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings.-

To present a better appearance, the edge of the band 23 farthest removed from theelements 24 may be'covered by a fabric tape 25 sewed to the hood 2 2. On the collar 2l.of the garment 20 I provide a tape 26 :similar'to the tape 23 and carrying a row of fastener elements "2'! designed to cooperate with the elements 24. As .illustrated in Fig..5a, the fastener elements 21 are so disposed with respect to the .collar 2| that when the garment I0 is worn without the hood 22 and the collar 2| turned down or folded,:-a-s shown in Fig. 3, the saidfastenerelements 2'! will be concealed from view underneatht-he fold of the collar and at thesametime will be .out of direct contact with the skin of the-wearer. .A fabric tape 28 covering theedgeof the band .26 slmilar'to the tape 25 may also be provided. said fastener elements 4| suitable slider member 30 is provided to join the cooperating elements 24 and 21 in the customary manner. The slide fastener device is preferably of the type whereby the hood 22 may be completely separated from the garment 20.

When it is desired to attach the hood 22 to the garment 20 the collar 2| is first raised from the folded position shown in Fig. 3 to the position shown in Fig. 2 so that the surface 2|a of the collar 2| opposed to the surface 2|b carrying the fastener elements 21 will protect the skin from the fastener elements 24 and 21 when they are joined by the slider 30.

The hood 22 may be provided with extension tabs 3| and 32, which are designed to be joined at the front by any suitable means'such as buttons 33 and buttonholes 34 in "order to completely envelop and protect the front neck portion ofv the wearer.

In Figs. 6 and 7 I have disclosed a modified form of my invention in which the row of fastener elements 21 attached to the garment 20 are disposed so that their upper edges substantially coincide with the normal fold line of the collar 2|, to facilitate the normal folding or turning down of the said collar.

In Figs. 8 to 10 I have disclosed still another at a point spaced from the top edge thereof. In

order to protect the skin of the wearer from contact with the fastener elements 4| a layer 45, which may be of the same or similar material as that of the neckband 42, is attached to the said neckband by a row of stitching 46 disposed adjacent the lower edge of said layer 45, It is noted that the upper portion of the layer 45 which overlies the fastener elements4| is unattached, thus providing a channel in which the are disposed. It is thus seen that when the garment 43 is worn as shown in Fig. 10, without the hood 22, the row 4| on the garment by means of the slider, both of said fastener elements 24 and 4| when in such connected position will be concealed from view within the above mentioned channel. At the same time the skin of the wearer will also be prevented from contact with the fastener elements, as clearly shown in Fig. 5.

It is understood that in all forms of my invention illustrated in the drawings the slider member 30'nray be mounted on either the row of fastener elements attached to the garments or to the row of fastener elements attached to the hood. Y

It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A garment of the character described, comprising a collar having a neck band member forming the neck opening of the garment and an integral fold over member permanently attached to the garment by means of said neck band member and foldable back on a line of fold over the outside of said garment to oovier said neck band member substantially throughout its length, a fabric tape extending substantially along said line of fold, a row of hookless fastener elements carried by said tape and positioned on the under face of said fold over member when said fold over member is in folded-down wearing position and hence located between the folds of the fold over member and the neck band when said fold over member is in said folded-down position, so as to be accesible when the collar is in raised position, said row extending substantially around the circumference of said fold over member and neck band member, and a hood provided with a row of hookless fastener elements around the lower edge thereof, cooperating with said fastener elements on said fold over member for detachably securing said hood to said garment, the positioning of the fold over member and neck band being such that the said neck band and fold over member constitute a shield between the skin of the wearer and the cooperating hookless fastener elements when the hood is in attached position and form an integral part of the composite garment structure.

2 In a garment, a collar having a neck band member forming the neck'opening of the garment, a fold over member, the outer ply of said neck band member secured to the outer ply of said fold over member forming a line of fo1d,'a row of hookless fastener elements disposed substantially along said line of fold; said fold over member foldable back over the outside of said garment to cover said neck band member and said row of hookless fastener elements, said row of hookless fastener elements being accessible when said collar is in the raised position.

In a garment, a collar having a neck band member forming the neck opening of the garment, a fold over member, the outer ply of said neck band member secured to the outer ply of said fold over member forming a line of fold, a row of hookless fastener elements disposed substantially along said line of fold; said fold over member foldable back over the outside of said garment to cover said neck band member and said row of hookless fastener elements, said row of hookless fastener elements being accessible when said collar is in the raised position, and a hood provided with a row of hookless fastener elements around the lower edge thereof,rcooperating with said fastener elements on said fold over member for detachably securing said hood to said garment.

A garment of the character described, comprising a collar having a neck band member forming the neck opening of the garment and an integral fold over member permanently attached to the garment by means of said neck band member and foldable back over the outside of said garment along a line of fold, a fabric tape extending substantially along said line of fold, a row. of hookless fastener elements carried by said tape located between the folds of the fold elements disposed along said line of fold located 10 between the folds of the fold-over member and the neck band member when said fold-over member is in said folded-down position, and a hood provided with a row of hookless fastener elements around the lower edge thereof, cooperating with said fastener elements on said fold-over member for detachably securing said hood to said garment, the positioning of the fold-Over member and neck band member being such that the said neck band member and fold-over member constitute a shield between the skin of the wearer and the cooperating hookless fastener elements when the hood is in attached position and forms an integral part of the composite garment structure.
