Description
1945- J. PERSIN 2,382,907
PRESS BUTTON CLOSURE BAND Filed June 3, 1939 Patented Aug. 14, 1945 PRESS BUTTON CLOSURE BAND Jean Persln, Paris, France; vested in the v Allen Property Custodian Application June 3, 1939, Serial No. 277,308 In the Netherlands June 3, 1938 4 Claims.
It is known to provide strips or bands of textile fabric material with press-button closure elements, as in the case of detachable shirt cuifs. It has been found, however, that the places where the said elements are attached to the band, will show a great deal of wear and that the band, particularly when shirts and cuffs are treated in the washing machine, will be torn to pieces.
The present invention has for its purpose to obviate the said drawbacks. The essential feature of the said invention resides in the fact that the band is provided in a longitudinal direction with one or more stripe-shaped areas which have a greater tensile strength than the remainder of the band. This greater strength may be obtained by using stronger warp threads for the said area. It is not necessary that the threads in question he thicker, if only they are stronger. The said greater strength may also be obtained by using a larger number of warp threads per unit of width of the band. These means of reinforcement may also be used in combination with each other. In the case of bands for shirt cuffs use will be generally made of a reinforced longitudinal central area on which the press button elements are applied. For other purposes the closure elements may be located on a laterally offset longitudinal area or stripe or on a plurality of such areas. In order to exemplify the invention, the accompanying drawing shows embodiment of the invention in a band or strip for incorporation in a detchable shirt cut! or the like, without limitation of the invention thereto.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing embodiment of the invention in a detachable shirt cufl arrangement, wherein both the shirt sleeve and the detachable cufl are providedwith bands or strips in accordance with the present invention, on the reinforced areas of which the male and female snap button elements or equivalent fastener elements ar mounted; and
Figure 2 is a plan view on an enlarged scale of a strip or band according to the present invention showing the longitudinal reinforced area spaced from the sides of the strip or band, with snap button elements secured spacedly along the reinforced area.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the banding the reinforced area I may be obtained in any desired manner. In the embodiment illustrated in Figure 2, the warp threads I of the area I are thicker and stronger than the warp threads of the unreinforced side areas 2 and 3.
\ In the arrangement shown in Figure 1 of the drawins, bands or strips according to the present invention are attached to the shirt cuff 6 and to the shirt sleeve to which the cuff is to be detachably secured by coaction of the snap fastener elements.
The band or strip may be of any desired kind of textile fabric, e. g., of silk or of figured satin cotton, etc., or of a combination of different materials. Warp and weft threads may be different. The strip may be provided with rounded or other selvedges. In a band with a reinforced longitudinal central area I the warp may consist for example of 156 double warp threads, of which 36 in the center are of No. 60/2 and colored, while 120 other warps are of No. 80/2 and uncolored. The weft may then be formed over the entire length of the area by} glazed cotton threads No. 60/2, 32 per cm. only serves by way of a single example.
I claim:
1. A detachable cuff or the like, comprising a single ply textile tape, a part of said tape being woven with additional reinforcing threads providing an elongated relatively narrow integrally woven reinforced area, said additional threads being of greater tensile strength and resistance comprises a reinforced longitudinal central area or stripe i and two unreinforced side areas 2 and I. The press or snap buttons 4 are attached at intervals to the reinforced area I in any conventional manner. The reinforcement constitutto abrasion than the threads of the unreinforced areas of the tape, and fastener elements secured at intervals to said reinforced area.
2. A detachable cuff or the like, comprising a single ply textile tape, a part of said tape being woven with additional reinforcing threads providing an elongated relatively narrow integrally woven reinforced area, said additional threads being of greater tensile strength and resistance to abrasion than the threads woven in unreinforced areas of the tape, and fastener elements secured at intervals to said reinforced area, said reinforcing threads comprising warp threads.
3. A detachable cuff or the like, comprising a single ply textile tape, a part of said tape being woven with additional reinforcing threads providing an elongated relativel narrow integrally reinforcing threads comprising additional warp threads per unit of width of the reinforced area than are woven in the said unreinforced areas of the tape.
4. A detachable cuff or the like, comprising a single ply textile tape. a port of said tape being woven with additional reinforcing threads providing an elongated relatively narrow integrally woven reinforced area, said additional threads being of greater tensile strength and resistance m to abrasion than the threads woven in unreinforced areas of the tape, andfastener elements secured at intervals to said reinforced area, said reinforcing threads comprising additional warp threads per unit of width of the reinforced area,
said warp threads being individually stronger and more resistant than those woven in the minforced areas of the tape.
JEAN PERSIN.
