UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. BEACH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND CHARLES V. GODDARD, OF SAME PLACE.
PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,511, dated December 27, 1881. Application men July 1, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. BEACH, of the city, county, and State ofNew York, have invented anew and useful Improvementiu Pantaloons, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for holding drawers in such a manner that they will not be inconvenient to the wearer and can be fastened or unfa-stened very easily and rapidly by the ordinary hand manipulations in the front of the body.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view of a pair of drawers and the pants from which they are suspended.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the inner side of they right-hand front lapel of the pants. Fig.3is a horizontal sectional view of the same, show ing the point of the pin drawn out of the socket; and Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional elevation of the socket on the line a 00, Fig.2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A button, A,is attached to the inner side of the front right-hand or inner lapel, B, ofa pair of pants, which lapel is provided with the button-holes C C in the ordinary manner. The top band of a pair of drawers, D, is provided with a button hole, into which the button A is passed, the front of the top band of the drawers being thus supported from the pants, and the sides of the top band of the drawers, or the part E of the drawers, resting on the hip-bones, (ossa ilia.)
It is evident that the above-described arrangement can be reversed without departing from the spirit of my invention-that is to say, the pants can be provided with a button-hole in place of the button A, and the drawers may be provided with an outer button in place of the button-hole.
The button A may have a pin, F, attached to its shank, the end of this pin fitting into a recess or groove, G, in a plate or socket, H, which is sewed or riveted to the inner side of the lapel B. If the left-hand end of the lapel B is pressed outward, as shown in Fig. 3, the point of the pin F can be withdrawn from the socket H. The pin F can then be passed through the front part of the top band or upper part of the drawers, and the point of the pin is then again passed into the socket H, and this pin thus holds the drawers to the pants, the side of the top band of the drawers being supported by the hip-bones, (ossa ilia,) as previously stated.
By supporting the front of the pants by means of the above-described attachment the support of the sides of the drawers by the hips is perfected.
The button, with or without the pin, may be attached to a short strip of some suitable material, preferably unyielding, or to a strip of the same material covering the entirelapel, and sewed or otherwise suitably fastened to the inner surface of the lapel.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a pair of pants, the combination, with the inner lapel, B, of the button A, the pin F, and the socket H, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
DR. M. W. BEACH.
