Description

UNITED STATES PATENT Qrrroa.
ADOLPH LANDES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECKTIES,
sprcification formirg part of Letters Patent No. 165,593, dated July 13, 1875; application filed June 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH LANDES, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Neck- Ties, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Figure 1 represents an inside View of my necktie when completed. Fig. 2 is a detached face view of the shield.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in the combination of sliding wings with the shield of a neck-tie, in such a manner that when said wings are pushed in, the neck-tie can be Worn with a standup collar, and when the wings are drawn out the neck-tie can be worn as a bow with a turn-down collar.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a shield for a neck-tie, which is made of pasteboard, card-board, sheet metal, or any other suitable material, and which is secured to the bow B and to the tie or band C by any suitable means, said tie or band being fastened to the shield at one end by a hook, b, or by any other suitable fastening that can be made to engage with a hole, 0, in the shield, as shown in Fig. 1. With the shield A are combined two slides, D D, which are provided with slots cl cl, through which extends the butt end of a pin, 6, which is fastened in the shield, and the point of which extends beyond said shield, and serves to secure the loose end of the tie or band after the same has been carried round the neck. On the shield A is fastened an elastic loop, g. The
slides D cross each other, and each of them is provided with a guide, f, which, in addition to the pin 6, serves to retain the same in the proper position.
The guides f are made of sheet-brass or other suitable material, and they may be constructed in any desirable form or shape.
\Vhen the slides D D are pushed in, as shown in Fig. 1, the bow B and tie or band 0 can be worn conveniently with a stand-up collar, the tie O serving to fasten the device on the neck in the usual manner.
\Nhen the slides D D are drawn out, they can be made to catch under the flaps of a turndown collar, and by applying the elastic loop {1 to the button of the shirthand the how is retained in position, and in this case the tie or band 0 may be taken oft, orit may be used in combination with the bow.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A shield for-a necktie or bow provided with slides D D, arranged to operate substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
2. The combination of a shield, A, slides D D, how 13', and tie or band 0, substantially in the manner set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
