PATENT OFFICE.
MAX RUBIN, OF BROOKLYN, E. D., NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 175,170, dated March 21, 1876; application filed March 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, MAX RUBIN, of Brooklyn, E. D., Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Neck-Tie Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 represents the inner side of my improved tie, shown in connection with a collar; and Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same, taken through line :10 as, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved holder for securing a neck-tie in place, and which shall be simple in construction and reliable and convenient in use.
The invention consists in the combination of the metallic plate, having a transverse slot formed in it, made narrow in the middle and wider at one end than at the other, and the elastic piece sewed to the said plate at the opposite sides of the neck of the slot, and at its smaller end with the tie; in the combination of the wire guard with the slotted plate, the elastic, and the tie; and in the combination of the studs with the collar-band near its ends, and with the tie-band near its ends, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the collar. B is the band, and .O is the tie or how. To the inner side of the tie (l is secured a metallic plate, D, which has a transverse slot formed in it. One end of the slot is made large enough to receive the head of the stud or button of the shirt neckhand. The middle part of the slot is made of only sufficient width for the stem of the stud to pass through. The other end of the slot is made wider, but not wide enough for the head of the stud to pass through. E is a piece of elastic interposed between the plate D and the tie O.
The elastic piece E is sewed to the plate at the small end of its slot and at the opposite sides of its neck, so that it may hold the head of the stud pressed against the inner side of the plate D, and keep it from sliding upon the said stud.
When the tie is to be worn with turn-down collars, a wire guard, F, is attached to the upper and lower edges of the plate D, to be passed beneath the turned-down parts of the collar, to keep the tie G in place.
When the tie G is to be worn with a standup collar, 21 neck-band, B, is used, one end of which is sewed to the said tie O, and its other end is provided with a button'hole or eye, to be buttoned upon the stud or neck-band of the shirt. In this case the neck band of the collar need be made no longer than the body of the collar, and may be secured near its ends to the band B of the tie by studs 1), passed through button-holes in the forward parts of the collar-band and in the inner ply of the tie-band, as shown in Fig. 2. This avoids buttoning so many thicknesses upon the shirt-stud, and at the same time keeps the collar securely in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l. The combination of the metallic plate D,
having a transverse slot formed in it, made narrow in the middle and wider at one end than at the other, and the elastic piece E, sewed to the said plate D at the opposite sides of the neck of the slot, and at its smaller end with the tie O, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the wire guard F with the slotted plate D, the elastic E, and the tie (.l, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The studs 1) b, the collar-hand, and the tie-band B, combined and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
MAX RUBIN.
